Old Law
- Could be interpreted to apply to protestors mere presence.
- Applies to White House and VP residence only when they are in residence.

New Law
- Applies to protestors *only* if they impede or disrupt gov't activity or turn violent.
- Applies to White House and VP residence full time.

This change is a net improvement over the earlier law in that it requires actual illegal activity by protestors. A1 and A2 of the current law says it is a crime if you are merely present in the wrong place at the wrong time. Huge improvement.

Your Occupy Group should be cheering.

By voting for this bill, members of Congress changed existing law in a couple of ways. First, it closed a loophole in the current law under which it was not a violation of 18 USC 1752 for someone to gain unauthorized entry to a restricted area of the White House of VP grounds. Think of it as the Salahi loophole. If the Salahi's had crashed a closed dinner that the president was attending outside the White House, it would have been a violation of 18 USC 1752 under language that has been on the books for 40 years. But sneaking into a state dinner AT the White House wasn't covered. Now, with HR 347, it will be. Other changes? adding the requirement that if one knowingly enters a restricted area and doesn't leave, you can be prosecuted but only if it can be shown that you knew you were there without lawful authority.

If HR 347 had been defeated the principal thing that would be different in the law is that the WH and VP residence would be less protected from trespassers than they are today. That's it.

So enjoy your visit.

Allows potential abuse with regards to how much area the SS can seize for an event...they literally could make an entire city off limits to protest.

If this bill wasnt potentially TOXIC then explain why 40 Congressional Lawmakers did not even vote???

We must question everything our congress does Republican or Democrat. They must know that we are listening.

Also received news about a clarification to NDAA about US Citizens and detention... It will be written more clear to say US citizens can not be subject to unlawful detainment.
