wtf? State agencies, colleges demand applicants' Facebook passwords

If you think privacy settings on your Facebook and Twitter accounts guarantee future employers or schools can't see your private posts, guess again.

Employers and colleges find the treasure-trove of personal information hiding behind password-protected accounts and privacy walls just too tempting, and increasingly, they are demanding full access from applicants and students.

In Maryland, job seekers applying to the state's Department of Corrections have been asked during interviews to log into their accounts and let an interviewer watch while the potential employee clicks through wall posts, friends, photos and anything else that might be found behind the privacy wall.

Previously, applicants were asked to surrender their user name and password, but a complaint from the ACLU stopped that practice last year. While submitting to a Facebook review is voluntary, virtually all applicants agree to it out of a desire to score well in the interview, according Maryland ACLU legislative director Melissa Coretz Goemann.

If you want to work, perhaps the freedom to blog is not a viable option in the NWO.

There's a limit to how far this can go and social networking still have the potential to generate profit. I know someone who immediately deleted their FB account over "timeline", just from employment fears. How many deletes will be tolerated before those making money from social networking push back? It could become a corporate battle.

we will be penalized for NOT having a FB page! I know of a few people already who caught shit in interviews for NOT having a FB page and it's getting to the point when FB is going to be society's "matrix." It is complete and utter bullshit and if you have your privacy settings on full blast it is NO ONE ELSE'S business what sofuckingever what you have on your page, especially not an employer's business. The ONLY thing that should concern an employer is how well you can do the job for which you're applying. PERIOD. END OF STORY. Unfortunately, in today's society, employers seem to think that they should have control over not just your workday and worklife, but your entire personal and non-work lives as well. And they're getting away with it legally.

Have your own web page. If someone asks why you don't have a FB page you just say you don't like anyone else controlling information about you online.

And I don't plan on having a FB account. This is one of the reasons why. Anyone even marginally concerned about security wouldn't have one.

If I do, I follow like one person who probably hasn't tweeted in a hundred days. LOL. I certainly haven't tweeted in a few years. Good luck with finding dirt or information on me via Twitter.

Give them that account

Use your real one for yourself.

That said, I'm sure this violates all kinds of privacy and sensitive information laws.
