All I wanted to do was change two rolls of dimes into a $10 bill, and they wouldn't do it because I don't have an account there. Now I wouldn't do business with them for anything -- not that they care, I'm sure. I feel more and more like Walt Kowalski in "Gran Torino" these days.

(21,851 posts)TD won't cash a check drawn on their bank, unless you have an account or pay a fee. Other banks do the same.
I find this outrageous. Their depositor has told them to pay a certain person a certain amount and they won't do it. Of course, they don't the check cashing fee when another commercial bank presents the check to them.

(1,370 posts)And frankly its a hassle for them to deal with change like that. I always get a frown when I bring in change.
Now I used to have an account with them years ago. I always had a hefty balance in the checking account, had a car loan through them that was paid on time 100%. One day, I tried to borrow money from them to buy a boat...nope, boats are too risky. I withdrew all my money and never looked back.
My current bank is local...as in I can go to the main office downtown and talk to people, and the president is often at civic functions. I like it that way.

(10,926 posts)I think you could only get their attention if you brought in, say, a thousand rolls of dimes a day
for $5000.

(11,923 posts)they were Bank of Delaware (so over 30 yrs). We've always found great service there, though we did recently have an issue with what one of their tellers called a "3rd Party Check".
It was the teller who was the problem, not the check. They had deposited several like that over the past few months, but this teller told our contractor that they couldn't take it because they couldn't prove that my husband and I actually endorsed the check and wrote for deposit only. A minute or two explaining the situation to a manager fixed the problem for us and turned into a learning experience for the teller.
Yes, the check was made out to 3 parties. It wasn't trickle down to 3 parties
