Other party elders, whose calls for compromise were often overshadowed by the tea party in recent weeks, blamed conservative groups such as Heritage Action, the Senate Conservatives Fund and the Club for Growth. They were influential during the debate, at times promising to help defeat Republicans lawmakers who voted for a compromise with Democrats.

"The right is a multiplicity of various groups, some of which aren't even Republicans, but who think they can control the Republican Party," said Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, condemning tactics he referred to as "radicalness."

Republican strategist Mike Murphy chided what he called "the stupid wing of the Republican Party."

"There's tension and there ought to be a questioning of whether we ought to listen to such bad advice," Murphy said when asked about the influence of conservative groups. "We took a huge brand hit. It's self-inflicted. ... I'm glad there are no elections tomorrow."

spent many years sending out propaganda that was designed to make the base angrier and angrier. Many on the left predicted that the establishment Republicans would eventually regret what they created.

And their elected officials are all power hungry Chief wannabees. They have almost no Indians, so to speak.

The end of red is coming and I'm going to see to it that it does.

You have to understand exactly why they're attempting to distance themselves from the Republican party. It's not because the Republicans are too crazy. When they say they aren't Republican, they usually mean that they think the Republican party is too liberal.

When all the racist Democrats became Republicans after the passage of the Civil Rights Act? Are we going to have moderate Republicans switching to the Democratic party out of disgust?

"He wasn't a real Republican."

Or my current fave: "I'm an independent." Yeah, right. You're an independent that spouts RW talking points, attacks anything vaguely resembling Democratic policies, and votes Repub all the fucking time.

Heard it all before. Bought the Tee shirt. Washed my truck with it.
