This was him talking to Geraldo last night, presumably while Geraldo was in the pre-lonely-drink-&-torso-selfie phase.
DERSHOWITZ said without *any* irony, with a straight face although he was smiling, the smart-principled thing, BUT he went on to say that Carney is wrong about everything he has been doing, wrong about interpreting the Constitution, wrong in tactics and methods.
He said Carney would "walk into my classroom with his right hand raised and kept it there all the time" --- HUH?!1

(115,837 posts)"Springbutts." When I was in law school in the late '70s we had a game called "Springbutt Bingo." The required classes were pretty large, but before long we (the "normal" students) figured out who all the Ted Cruzes, the "Call on me, Professor, I know, I know!" characters were. So some of us devised Bingo cards with the names of a random selection of these guys (they were all guys), and every time the prof called on one of them we'd check off their name. Just like with regular Bingo, you won when all the names on your card were checked, and the winner would say "Bingo!" in a loud stage whisper. I didn't go to Harvard, but if they played Springbutt Bingo there I bet Ted's name was on all of the cards.
We hated those guys, but interestingly, they didn't always get the best grades. One of them would routinely hide or move certain important reference books just before exams so nobody else could find them (this was in pre-computer days, when all we had was books. Made of paper.). He actually bragged about this. I wonder if Ted did shit like that?

Indeed, they aren't the brightest, not by a long shot, but they are "first in class" in some regard.
Cheers!

(32,093 posts)Where I went to college, the pre-med student were like that, too. We even had some who broke into a prof's office and stole the final exam.

(16,856 posts)I always wanted my friends to do well; I didn't care either way about the other people. I've never really understood ultra-competitive people. I don't like being around them at all.

(115,837 posts)insanely competitive characters. They were the guys (probably some women by this time, too) who you knew had worn suits and carried briefcases to class in college (maybe even high school), probably were poli-sci majors, thought they were smarter than everybody else and made sure you knew that. No doubt most of them either went into politics or became hedge fund managers.
