"Marco Rubio: Obama Has Undermined Immigration Reform By Refusing To Defund Obamacare"

In the GOP tradition of taking responsibility for nothing, Rubio blames his own party's opposition to immigration reform on the President.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) suggested on Sunday that President Obama’s refusal to compromise with Republicans on Obamacare to re-open the government and raise the nation’s debt ceiling has jeopardized the chances of passing comprehensive immigration reform.

“I think immigration reform is harder to achieve today an it was three weeks ago because of what happened here,” the first-term senator said during an appearance on Fox News Sunday, before agreeing with opponents of immigration reform who warn that that the Obama administration will simply fail to enforce border security or other aspects of a bill he disagrees with.

“The president has undermined this effort, absolutely, because of the way he has behaved over the last three weeks,” Rubio added. “This notion that they’re going to get in a room and negotiate a deal with the president on immigration is much more difficult to do…because of the way the president has behaved towards his opponents over the last three weeks.”

Rubio, who is often mentioned as a possible GOP presidential candidate, said he still supports a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrations, but stressed that conservatives in the House “deserve the time and space to craft their own solution.” “Let’s see what they come up with, it can very well be much better than what the Senate has done so far,” he said.

will this new population segment, whether legal or becoming legal, deal with both their family's health and health care? Emergency Room services? Comes back to the same solution...Single payer.

PBO has been the adult in the room with the 18th Century Throwbacks...the Tantrum Caucus...that's how he has "behaved".

He knows the Rethugs are fucked on this. Obama wants reforms that many Rethugs want as well in their desperate desire to win over some Hispanic voters.

But with the new Tea Party split, Obama's call for immigration reform means further fracture for the Republican party since the Tea Party thugs aren't going to play nice.

So Rubio's just trying out to get ahead of the ball and say its Obama's fault since he wasn't "nice" during the debt ceiling/Obamacare/shut down fiasco.

Yeah.

Rubio's trying to re-write history as though the polls didn't reflect that the public blames the REPUBLICANS for the shut down and that they supported the President standing firm.

I give him points for sheer chutzpah however in trying to gloss over what really happened, even as its still so raw and new.

This disconnect between legislation passed in 2009 and what is still needed in this day and age for comprehensive immigration reform is another convenient but absurd excuse used by the far-right to continue their obstructionism. Ironic that the two GOP members of Congress who were leading the charge to reach out to Latino citizens (Rep. Raul Labrador R-ID being the other) through meaningful immigration reform have both washed their hands of future involvement. I dare to say that the public perception of who has been engaging in "bad behavior" in recent weeks would be directed more toward Rubio's party.

It makes no sense politically for the GOP, in terms of any hopes for expanding their base. But it seems to be an emerging talking point, aided and abetted by the Tea Party who will oppose any reform measures that includes a path to citizenship. Basically, they will be screwed as obstructionists, but they would be doubly screwed if a another major schism occurs in the ranks, in addition to the obstructionism.

"We didn't really want to stand in the way of immigration reform, but Obama is being such a meanie these days. So no dice. And by the way, don't hold this against us, since it's not really our fault."
