New introduction

I'm new here on Democratic Underground. I thought I would join since I'ed like to recivie a good round up of all Democratic news from one website with forums for discussion included. I'm using the first letters of my name as my user name so, with luck I'll continue to remember them for many good long years to come. I'm 52 and have worked in one form or another for my country Democratic board in every large election for the past ten + years. I'm already working on plans for 2012 in my area. I like to stay active on issues that matter to how we live. Labeling or getting rid of GMOs matters to me as well as having members of different parties become better at working on Bipartisan issues. Years ago, I had the pleasure of working with Senator Ted Kennedy on promoting reading in families with young children. When I am asked to take one of those "which side are you likely to vote for" questionnaires, i fall solidly on our side. I see and understand how issues effect the world around us. Everything from our local park board to Washington and world affairs really do matter to me. I want to leave this world a better place than the one I currently live in.
Personally, I'm the very loyal type, I explore an issue, learn everything I can about it and once I've made up my mind. I don't change it. I've been married to the love of my life for nearly 30 years. I raised two fine sons. My older son is married and has two little girls. My hobbies include traveling as much as possible, I consume books and e-books. and If I listed my favorite authors, this would be a book in it's own right. Speaking of writing, I write short stories, Magazine articles and I'm starting my first full length book. Other interests include avoiding cooking by working on my genealogy. I like to garden until the weeds start to take over. A perfect evening for me is spent with a glass of wine, around our deck the odd plunge in the hot tub and my husband and plenty of good friends to enjoy the evening with.

Ted Kennedy was one of the last lobbyists FOR the People, it must of been quite the experience .

I'd like to introduce you to The Lounge, where we diverge from politics a bit and get to know each other:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1018

and

The New Member's forum, which is self explanatory:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1256

(editorially speaking, large blocks of type are tough to read in this format and I recommend the return key.. and admit to overusing it on occasion)

I consider DU my "one stop shop" for news and current events.

You'll meet some wonderful people here, and as another poster said, "It can be addictive."
