(25,592 posts)I'm sorry if you were offended...my words were taken out of context...I was not referring to you personally, of course...I could not have higher regard for fill-in-the-blank...etc.
But they manage to move the goalposts just a little to the right each time, and the next time someone berates a government employee on camera, people will be just a little more inured to it. That of course, is the secret of Ann Coulter: after a while her hate just becomes part of the background and is the new normal. That is also how the RW has managed to succeed over the decades.

(15,224 posts)Well said! And perfectly explained. If you hit someone with a rope, then hit them with a tire iron, eventually, the rope doesn't seem so bad.
But hitting someone at all is still wrong, and a few of us still have the ability to understand that - unlike most Republicans.

(975 posts)after he got out of the draft somehow??????? during the Vietnam conflict. He should have been prime cut of meat for the draft he was born the same year as me and my draft notice was in the mail when I enlisted. I still would like to know which method he took to dodge, poop your pants or get someone to pull strings, or maybe he just had other priorities. Or maybe he was like so many other "R's" and has a yellow streak running down his spineless back.

(15,224 posts)The main reason, at least, although he probably had strings pulled for him, too.
I was a little younger than the Vietnam Nam draftees, but I remember my older sisters' boyfriends leaving for long periods of time, and not being the same when they came back.
Thank you for your service.

(1,484 posts)Unless I misread it, I would say that the not so good Congressman only said that he was "caught up in emotion" and that his "tone was inappropriate". He never admitted that the reason why the monument was closed was because he voted to close it.
Still, I don't imagine that the people who elected him will ever be able to figure that out. "Whul sheeeet Jetra." "Hes got my vote."

(34,195 posts)The Congressman became a tea bagger hero for yelling at a park ranger who was merely doing his job,
and the Congressman "apology" will be overlooked by the GOP trailer trash.

(21,152 posts)He wasn't "'caught up' in emotion after seeing veterans turned away from the memorial" as he claims. He was trying to score cheap political points on camera. I'd have had a ounce more of respect for him if he could admit that to the ranger and himself.

(12,406 posts)singled out the bicycle helmet guy who told the old geezer to shut his trap and stop bullying the girl, since it was congress' fault (and his) that the parks were shut down in the first place.

(15,224 posts)And I never saw it played in the media. I wanted to grab that guy and give him a big hug for having the presence of mind to get that in, and then he's ignored.

(12,406 posts)(probably msnbc) a couple of times, but the guy said his peace, then took off, so don't know if he even realizes that he is being adored after the fact, lol.
