Our local ballots have been "non-partisan" for a decade or more. There aren't D or R tags beside any candidates' names: for each race, the top two primary contenders face each other in November
When I say this, the common answer is: "I'll figure out which ones are Democrats!"
If it were an even-numbered year, I'd be delighted by these angry people telling me they'll never vote for another Republican
But for our municipal elections, trying to figure out who's a Democrat, and who's not, often won't help. Truth be told, my town is solid blue, and Republicans don't usually win here. Anybody with a shot at local office is almost always a Democrat. And that still doesn't mean the candidates are all the same
I don't have enough time to explain this at every doorstep. So I make a few short points on why the progressive householder should support this slate of candidates and then I move along
If you want progressives in Congress, start grooming them and growing them locally

(28,811 posts)even if NC Dems endorsed a candidate if i knew that person was a republican i would not vote for him/her. i know that's silly but i just cannot endure the thought of voting for a republican.
