Or will we be going through all of this again at least one more time?

(21,115 posts)however, popularity has prevented their schemes against other programs in the past...I think popularity is going to protect this too.

(8,377 posts)Of course, it becomes very difficult to totally stop it after policies begin to go into force on January 1, but they will be right back at it, trying to undermine its success every way possible. I hope we don't have to hear any more of that shit before December 15, because we all need a break from it. But I just don't see that happening.

(5,756 posts)Cruz is grandstanding for the presidential election and has a safe senate seat until 2018. It's quite obvious he doesn't give a shit about anyone other than him. He'll be happy to press his "principled stand" again next year.

(37,331 posts)They want to have a few more of these. Because surely if they keep this up, they'll get re-elected in a landslide.

(8,377 posts)The next time the GOP has control over over both houses, or has a GOP President, all they have to do is cut the subsidies, just like they did 2 weeks ago with food stamps. The structure that Obama chose is the most fragile of all institutions, and it only survives as long as we control the WH.
If instead, there would have been and expansion of Medicare, or at least the inclusion of a public option in the exchanges, this would be MUCH, MUCH harder to stop.
Honest folks, there is absolutely nothing protecting this thing, other than the goodwill of the people. If this doesn't have about 75% public support the next time we have a GOP President, it is history.
And why should 75% of the public be passionate about it? The exchange part of the program only serves about 10% pf the public.
One would hope that some of the other more general provisions, such as no pre-existing conditions, would be popular enough to survive a GOP President.

(4,325 posts)Jan 15 or Feb 7. Not sure which date will be the final one. And, NO, the repukes don't have enough sense to realize that every time they try this it just hurts their chances for reelection even more than already. They will keep it up until we have Democrats in the White House, the majority in the Senate and in the House of Representatives.

(19,497 posts)a simple majority in both chambers and a willing president. Of course the same formula also works for defunding it. All tax and budgetary bills only require simple majorities.

(27,670 posts)totally counterproductive to their interests for republicans to try to stop the ACA.
People would hate republicans even more than they hate them right now, and their would be even more on board with the hatin' on the thugs.
