Baseball teams get to celebrate when they win the division....

....even when they haven't yet won the World Series.

Yes, I know we still have to be vigilant. Yes, I know we may have to repeat all this shit again in January. Yes, I know we are dealing with Tea Party Republicans in heavily gerrymandered districts who by that virtue are as difficult to defeat as cockroaches. Yes, I know, the two week shutdown was hell for anyone working in the federal government and we lost a lot of money because of the idiocy.

But today, we won.

We can celebrate. Today.

Enjoy the champagne bath. Today.

And tomorrow, we get back to work.

It's idiotic. That's the only sport where you get the champagne shower for accomplishing nothing meaningful.

I'm a Baltimore Orioles fan.

And last year, after having endured 14 straight losing seasons, it was damn sweet watching the team celebrate after beating the Rangers in the Wild Card Playoff game. Even though they went on to lose to the Yankees in the ALDS.

Plus, baseball has far and away the best on field celebrations. There's no running out the clock like in other sports. You have to get that final out, and once you do, it's pandemonium.
