Little reason for celebration

tweeted by, Chris Murphy ?@ChrisMurphyCT 17m

Little reason for celebration. Keeping doors open, paying bills is not a victory, it should be a basic expectation of gov.

There's a reason White House isn't uber-excited about debt deal: It doesn't achieve anything but functioning of gov't.

RT @EvanMcSan: Carney: "I don't know how quickly everything gets turned on if an agreement is reached, passed and signed."

Now we can all get back to ignoring the jobs crisis, spiking poverty rate, stagnating wages and creeping plutocracy. http://t.co/aQBVlFlHDi

A strong Republican party makes those effects worse.

Hard to be sanguine about where we are today. Us pawns out here are more than a bit rattled by the game. Check back at checkmate.

15. And a strong Republican party would make those cuts worse

Weakening themselves gives Reid a much better negotiating position in the coming months, to reverse the worst of the sequester.

We won't be able to repeal the entire sequester unless we win the House in 2014. Again, Republicans damaging themselves makes that actually possible.

So while today continues to suck, recent events make it possible for tomorrow to be better.

couple of months we'll be doing it all over again. As Ezra Klein wrote " American politics has become a game of Calvinball played with live ammunition."

Spectacular crises aren’t the only way a political system can fail. A Congress that can’t avoid own-goals like sequestration, that can't routinely legislate to address problems like aging infrastructure, and that misses opportunities like immigration reform will, over time, meaningfully harm the country’s growth prospects. And it will do so in a way that’s hard to notice, and thus hard to fix: People don’t much miss the three-tenths of a percentage point worth of growth they didn’t have that quarter. But compounded over time, it’s a disaster.
Crises can happen slowly, too. We can't say we weren't warned.

all we got is the government opening like they are supposed to without undoing a healthcare plan that most conservative Republicans not that long ago would have supported.

You are my kind of Democrat. Can you believe the opposition we are getting?

Even here we have moderates telling us we should be happy we still have our heads and otherwise should STFU.

Well, I have tried nice. Hasn't worked. Time to adjust, eh? Obama? Is he with us?

what the hell do you imagine you're doing?

Who/what is it you're defending again? Is this your version of progressive politics? Democratic politics? Presidential politics? DU politics?

It just looks like assholery from here.

Just what the fuck do you imagine you're doing?
