So the House will vote, and 17 GOP votes will be needed, so no, this isn't done yet.
But let's say for the sake of argument that those 17 House Republicans do vote with the Democrats, and the bill passes, and the president signs it. The government is only open until January, the debt limit is pushed only until February, and like as not we will wind up doing some version of this again.
(FYI, Reid wanted the shorter time, because if these deals were extended any later, the sequester would get locked in for another fiscal year, and he wants a chance to take a hack at it from a position of strength in the upcoming budget talks, so there is method to the madness after all)
So the House will vote, and just maybe this crisis will be put aside for a few months.
There is still the Trans-Pacific Partnership, plus Chained CPI and Medicare means testing (both of which Obama floated not long ago, which will make an appearance in the budget debate, mark my words), plus the Keystone XL pipeline, plus the ongoing voter restriction efforts, plus the ongoing war on women, plus the all-important 2014 midterm elections, plus, and plus, and plus, and plus.
Take this to heart, friends and neighbors: rust never sleeps, and there is never, ever, ever any rest for the weary.
If we get past this thing tonight, have a drink on me. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Get a good night's sleep.
We are right back to it tomorrow.

How can you be so negative?

Glad to see you have some concept of the reality. Maybe you can influence some here to become more grounded? Too many, it seems to me, think that staying afloat against this latest wave is a victory over the ocean. They are deluded.

Great Album, actually got to see him doing the Rust Never Sleeps tour back in '79. Great concert, what I remember of it, was really stoned at the time.

(8,361 posts)Those were retained by the treasury. The leverage of timing is still with the president, and the executive can keep the government solvent up through summer, possibly. This would put a renewed debt limit agreement uncomfortably close to midterms.

Instead of outright claiming ENOUGH bullshit from the teabaggers, you take the view that they can still destroy us.

(8,361 posts)BTW, Obamacare continues forward. Biggest expansion of health care coverage since Medicare. That was tea Party's Waterloo re: stopping/delaying/altering Obamacare.

(10,044 posts)is that the ACA will be on its feet by then. The website and insurance companies will have their stuff fixed, and if it goes as planned, Americans will not tolerate the teaparty sticking its nose where it doesn't belong.
That pipeline is what I think they want most and first.
Although Cruz and friends are undeniably and sincerely dedicated to the overthrow of the government, I betcha the people funding them aren't, and are just using them to get what they want.
They want the pipeline, TPP, and all the things you mentioned, and will rid themselves of Cruz et al. when they're done with them. They fear Cruz too because he's crazy, not merely greedy like them.
