Officials investigate rebel flag on firefighter's ax

Orange County administrators are investigating why a Confederate flag appeared on a firefighter's ax in a Pine Hills station, an official said Wednesday.

"There was a Confederate flag on the ax," said Eddie Brown, a spokesman for Orange County fire rescue. "It's an ongoing investigation. And we're not going to comment on anything or any specifics until we know all the facts."

The incident was reported in July. The ax was reportedly removed from the station shortly after its discovery.

Brown said the internal probe is being handled by the county's Office of Professional Standards. He did not know when it would be complete.
