For the true believer, nothing has changed. No defeat or opposition can invade their conspiracy world view. As you can see on Red State, they still believe the conspiracy against them. When an extremist group gets to this point, they can only explain their defeats by conspiracy. Since all normal roads to success are blocked by the "conspiracy", it is necessary to take extreme measures.

Luckily for us, this means that they will begin to eat their own, for "ideological purity". This will make their group smaller and less influential, until it is a minor fringe of extremists.
