Where there is big money coming into Florida, expect crony redistributions of wealth.

I hope local Democrats are eying who gets the jobs at the big airport expansion, because that's how the game is played.

Orlando airport to consider $1.1B expansion plan

Orlando International Airport leaders are expected to launch a $1.1 billion expansion today that would help pay for a new train depot, people mover, garage and a rebuilt airside.

The work would be paid for through ticket fees, loans and a combination of state and federal tax money.

The work also would set the stage for the eventual construction of a second terminal that would cost $1 billion. It would be built a mile south of the existing terminal that opened in 1980.

The seven-member airport board will discuss and vote on the ambitious project this afternoon. The expansion is being proposed even though the number of passengers at Orlando International is falling for the second year in a row – mostly because more visitors are opting to drive to Central Florida's attractions rather than fly.
