Guess what? She was an austrian princess, a foreigner, and the french media smeared her over and over again because she was a foreigner.
She lived an isolated luxurious life-style, unaware of the economic problems of France.
Then there was the time when she fell for a scam and invested lots of money into a diamond-trade that never happened.
"Let them eat cake"? Ask an historian. Most likely made up by the press.
After her arrest they tried to make up a case that she had an incestuous affair with her 10-year-old(?) son. It fell apart in court and was quickly swept under the rug.

The french press had what would today be called "Marie Antoinette derangement syndrome". The common people hated her, because she was a detached, misinformed foreigner. And the press cashed in on this with tasteless caricatures and outlandish articles.

You told me to go read a history book.
Yet I see no word from you here:

Rightly or wrongly, she is a symbol of elites gone wild. That was my point. They run a dangerous path.

However, you have seen fit to lecture me. Why aren't you lecturing others or am I just lucky to get your attention?

I am not talking about correcting the entire interwebs.
I am talking about some consistency in answering posts on DU. When threads about the same thing happen hours apart, it is not too much of a stretch to think someone as vigilant as you would miss it.

I didn't refer to a thread that was days or even weeks old.

I saw the other thread about an hour later and my thoughts were (almost verbatim): "Fuck that. I'm not in the mood to hold two parallel discussions on the same topic in two threads." Call me lazy.
