And I'm paraphrasing because I was in the other room
"When this is all finished, I'm buying Sen Cruz a vacation to The Little Big Horn, so he can take some time to think."
I have to say, if this was a fellow Republican, damn they seem a little bit testy with him don't they?
I LOL'ed.

(13,305 posts)Ted Cruz is one Senator. He is in the minority of the minority in the Senate and has no power over anyone in the house that they do not willingly give him by following him.
It's too easy to lay this at one dudes feet, however much of a psychotic asshat he is.
Boehner is choosing not to bring a clean deal to the floor.
The "moderate" republicans are choosing not to demand that a clean vote be brought to the floor.
Ted Cruz is in the Senate which has passed a clean bill.
This effort to find just one scapegoat so that others can distance themselves from him and act like they were not essentially doing the same thing (worse if they are someone who actually has a vote in the House which is causing this issue) is pathetic and I hope we don't continue to aid in that effort.

(129,067 posts)The "clean" bill that was passed in the Senate and that is sitting in the House right now does NOT address the debt ceiling. It only re-opens the government until November 15.... Which is why the Senate is working on a more comprehensive combined bill (they had originally blocked a "clean" debt ceiling increase by not being able to get the 60 votes for cloture).
The concern in the Senate is that Cruz and/or Lee may try to force debate (and would not go along with the quickest method for passage - a unanimous consent).

(13,305 posts)That is but one piece of this issue. We've been in a shut down now for 14 days and other than his idiotic speech, Cruz hasn't been in any position of power to do or not do anything.
He may in fact do just what you said, but up until now he's had no actual power over anything excepting voting or not voting on what has already passed the Senat. The largest bulk of what has happened so far has been due to the house's idiocy and Boehner. Neither of which has anything to do with Cruz except in the most tangential, party related way.

Amen. A thousand Amens!

(27,315 posts)McConnell could have let people in the Senate vote for the DL bill. He did not.
And now that we are in this mess, they (and the rest of their leadership) are trying to go after Cruz? Imagine what would have happened if Pelosi had tried the same stunt against Kucinich and Grayson?
