Bwaaaaaaaaah! ReTHUGs, Amazing Grace and how Gerry Connolly nailed it

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/15/house-republicans-amazing-grace_n_4101319.html
<snip>
When reports surfaced that House Republicans sang "Amazing Grace" during a Tuesday morning meeting, Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) responded with a laugh.

"Isn't that usually sung at funerals?" he joked with reporters.

"I hope they understand the derivations of those lyrics," Connolly said. "It was written by a slave trader who came to be filled with remorse for his actions. His words say, 'I was blind but now I see' ... He is remorseful for his past and takes responsibility for those actions and sees the saving light of grace, even for a wretch like himself."

"I'm not saying my colleagues are wretches," he added. "But I hope what that indicates, the symbolism of singing that beautiful hymn that all Americans share, is that there's some saving grace here."

Asked what he thinks Democrats will sing in their next caucus meeting, Connolly thought for a second. Then he sounded a note of optimism, given the recent progress toward a bipartisan Senate fiscal deal.

"Here Comes The Sun," he said.

he began writing "Here Comes The Sun." Clapton said they were outside watching the sun come up and George just started playing his guitar and writing what he was experiencing at that moment.

(Clapton said it in Martin Scorsese's "Living in the Material World" on HBO.)

One of George's best!

I'll be glad to. They're wretches! They're WORST than wretches! They're seditious, spoiled, selfish, short-sighted, proudly and willfully ignorant, mean-spirited, even downright treasonous, and they have NO BUSINESS anywhere near government!!!!

I think some of you are missing some important points.

1) Are they really smart enough to learn from this?
2) Do they have any idea how much damage they have done?
3) Are they capable of seeing the "other side" of an argument?

I would answer "NO" to all of those. The choice of that song tells me that they are just as oblivious as I thought.

Remember you are dealing with people who "think" they are Christians( I am pretty sure Christ would have some issues with that), who deny that almost all of us had immigrant ancestors and believe that racism is an acceptable behavior.

They do not even understand the basics of how government works and refer to the "government" as if they do not belong to it.

but Connolly exposed both their ignorance and hypocrisy with his comments and that's good enough for me - indeed it's delish.
