Is the plan to box Ted Cruz in?

If the Senate has to pass their plan to send it to the House, Cruz could choose to delay until after the debt limit deadline. Is this a way to essentially make him admit this wasn't a winnable fight the whole time by allowing a vote? Or will he choose to single-handedly send the US into default?

1. I don't think they're all that concerned with him at the moment. They'll deal with him later.

They're trying to put out a fire right now. He would truly have to be crazy--we're talking serious looney tunes--to pull some procedural stunt now and single-handedly impact the economy like that.

He said he would do whatever it takes, but now he has to disappoint his supporters by not actually doing everything in his power. They'll probably declare him a RINO. He will probably lose his unofficial Speakership over it.

3. There is a way around having to do a cloture vote. See post on link below...

Boehner is going to send a 'message' over to the Senate - so there will not have to be a cloture vote

10. But he could still delay the final vote for 30 hours...

... after it comes to the floor (which I assume will be some time tomorrow). That's definitely long enough to be problematic and probably also technically a default. At the very least I would think that would cause a downgrade to the U.S. Credit rating.

4. If he objects to unanimous consent, I predict an immediate vote to expel.

Seriously, I see no other course, Should the idiot object, the next order of business will be to expel Senator Cruz on the grounds that he is seeking to harm the full faith and credit of the US.

He'd never come back from such a debacle and he'd never survive the 2/3 requirements because nearly his entire caucus despises him.

no punch, but
seeking to destroy the United States carries more weight and gets everyone's attention.

Among those who support this default... because, yes, there are people who want the U.S. to default, just as Yoho said.

They want to defund the federal govt. This is a "state's rights" fight in modern garb.

They want to pick and choose which parts of the debts are paid and the parts they want to pay have to do with foreign debt holders.

They want to defund social programs in the U.S. really. That's the goal.

They want to get rid of all the Republicans who will negotiate with Democrats and elect tea party candidates for those seats.

They do not want the U.S. to help any other nation, or help people in this nation in the case of natural disaster.

They do not want the states to supply aid to help people in crisis via any social programs, either.

This is a war on poor people, who are mostly made up of women, children and the elderly. The majority of tea party supporters are white males with adequate incomes to survive.

They don't care about anyone or anything but themselves.
