Trillions spent on homeland defense and military might. Who could have imagined that our downfall

would be at the hands of a few extremely stupid American congressmen who nobody, not even the President, has the authority to rein in? Isn't it ironic?

We call them recall elections.

And impeachment.
And prison for sedition.
I have a bad feeling that if this happens, somebody's gonna end up going postal and shooting someone.

No recall for Federal officers.

And impeachment.

Not for members of Congress. Only for judges and members of the Executive.

And prison for sedition.

I hate what they are doing, but it is not sedition. The Speaker is actually using the power given to him by the Constitution. I don't like it, but.

Agreed, the other night they almost went fist-to-cuffs, or went to them. Your reports will vary. We are far from hitting bottom.

Only reason why I am bothering, is that really, the only recourse we have is

1.- Vote them out

2.- They be expelled by the House for indictment or other forms of ethical misconduct. This is rare as can be.

just about anything. Declare a national emergency and shut down Congress. I am not advocating this, but I believe the authority is there.

A unilateral action by the POTUS might help on paper, but it wouldn't help the markets or the world's perception of the US' credit worthiness. Not to mention the GOP would spend the rest of this and next year trying to impeach Obama.

are part of the reason we're in this debacle. We had a balanced budget... a fucking. Balanced. Budget. Then came Bush and his off-the-book wars and his rampant military spending, and his Orwellian homeland security policies. I doubt the sledgehammer of the debt ceiling would even be an issue if Gore had been allowed to take his rightful place.

Bush's incompetence in preventing 911 and his administration's reaction to it set this country on the wrong path. We may never fully undo the damage that was done during his administration. OBL's ghost is somewhere smiling right now.
