GOP Assemblyman Pushes Donald Trump For New York Governor
Republican New York State Assemblyman is reportedly pushing for his party to recruit Donald Trump to run for governor in 2014. And the effort to recruit the prominent birther apparently has the backing of the state’s GOP chairman.
The New York Post reported Monday that Assemblyman Bill Nojay, an upstate New York Republican, has been circulating a three-page memo to party leaders making the case for why Trump is the sole person who could win back the governorship from incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D). “There is only one prospective candidate who could run on the GOP line and win against Cuomo in 2014 — Donald Trump,” the memo claims. Nojay argues further that “Trump is not considered a Republican — he is his own brand, an almost iconic figure of Rockefellerian proportions.”
In recent years, Trump, whose companies have filed for bankruptcy protection four times, has gone from reality show host to Romney surrogate and birther-in-chief. In his frequent appearances on Fox News and elsewhere, Trump has repeated widely-debunked conspiracy theories. He called for a revolution to overthrow President Obama after he was re-elected by a four point margin, making the bizarre claim that Obama “lost the popular vote by a lot.”
