(23,138 posts)I'm a proud liberal since the escalation of the Viet Nam war. Being raised by Jerry Falwell type Christian Conservatives in the south, it took me until my late teens to realize what was really happening and take a huge turn left to sanity.

(3 posts)I have been a liberal since JFK was elected in 1960 and I was only 7 years old. Never looked back since. I have always despised the Republican Party, but they keep getting worse with time. The Tea Party and other radical right wingers have taken control of the government and the people have to fight back. They have the money and we have the people power!!
People-wake up!! This could be the end of the United States as we know it.

(492 posts)he was too spineless to defend Liberalism. When asked by a reporter if he considered himself a Liberal, Olympia's brother spluttered and stuttered and said, well, no, really, I'm not that, not at all.
And so George H.W. Bush beat the crap out of him. Yeah, Olympia's brother lost that election for a lot of other reasons -- all attributable to political incompetence and stupidity. But his obvious fear at being labeled what FDR, JFK and so many others were proud to be called lost me completely. I didn't vote for George, Senior, either. I just didn't vote.

(12,504 posts)is there a list of accomplishments that are so broadly used by the nations people, that the Reps can produce?
For a group that tends to tout "What's in it for me?" I doubt it's very far reaching

(9,771 posts)The RW propaganda machine succeeded very well in making liberal a dirty word. Now even many, if not most, Democrats believe liberals are radicals. Meanwhile the RW can storm the White House with Confederate Flags and barely veiled threats and few it's not widely criticized as radical.
