the police/rangers to avoid overreaction and to be patient today--the teabaggers were hoping to stage another "spontaneous" moment of vets triumphing over Obama's oppression, like the old vets last week, but with a twist of vets being cuffed and hauled away this time. Reading the rightie blogs, there is a palpable disappointment that the turnout sucked and nothing happened--some dipshits moved some metal frames around. Just staged asshattery and no satifsfying Obama-thuggery moments.

I had a smug, right-wing friend positively guarantee me that the President would arrest WWII vets. I said, "No way."

Republicans have never been good at predicting the future. If they were, they wouldn't be Republicans.

There were about half a million people -- and I was there. Even though we were very angry at Bush-Cheney, even though we were noisy, it was peaceful, well-organized, as crime-free as possible (I picked a Washington Post before I left -- I think they reported something like 3 arrests of pickpockets). Nobody broke anything.

Hilariously enough, Free Republic sponsored a counter-protest that attracted about a hundred of their people.

(The VFP wasn't the main organizer -- I think United for Peace and Justice and the ANSWER Coalition were. About 300 members of Military Families Speak Out were there.)

Wasn't looking for it, but there it was naming all the military groups participating: Gold Star Families for Peace, Military Families Speak Out, Iraq Vets Against the War, and Veterans for Peace. Some focus group!
