Is the GOP simply trying to find a way to save face amid the Obamacare take-down fiasco or are they actually trying to force us to default? Cantor certainly seems to have taken over House procedures for some reason. And Gingrich has said for years that that's the ultimate goal of the right -- to force us into default so they must gut Social Security and Medicare. Anyone care to wager a guess?

After the default, guess which will be the first checks to stop being issued?

(28,498 posts)I used to get those periodic statements informing me of my benefits. I can't remember when I last received one.
But I wanted to keep tabs on my payments and projected stipend (I first started paying into SS in 1969 when I was a teen and started working summers and after-school). I'm also thinking of "retiring" in a couple of years and want to see how I'll fare.
When this whole ordeal started, I wanted some kind of record to counter these fascists for when they begin their putsch. I really believe the One Percenters want to own the planet and the US government stands in their way.
But you're correct: the Richie Riches have all stop paying taxes (courtesy of Reagan and Bush) putting the burden on the middle- and working-class taxpayers. Their next step is to destroy the these taxpayers completely by making them "repay" the deficit created by:
1. Tax cuts for the wealthy
2. Iraq invasion ($3 to $6 trillion alone)
3. Allowing Richie Rich to hide his wealth offshore
4. Allowing corporations to move jobs offshore
5. etc.
6. etc.
7. etc.
This may all be academic since I suspect the TPP, if passed, will be our death knell.
But, I think everyone should open an online SS account to keep tabs on what is going on with their benefits.
