This is a very important interview in my opinion. I see the slide to fascism just as he does. Take the time to listen to this.
I'd like to hear what others here think about this. He's right on the money...

(62,325 posts)Bush years, he is speaking to those who see clearly, which is, for the short term, a minority. But over the long term, like may others throughout history who could see clearly, he will be proven to be correct.
Love Hedges. We need many more like him.

(10,274 posts)I know he would never consider it a proper platform for making his voice heard, but if even a handful of people like him could find it within themselves to run for Office, this Nation and our Planet would be the better for it.
I would be content to see him given access as a member of the White House Press Corp (though, he likely wouldn't take that job, either).

(62,325 posts)good a journalist. They prefer those who worry enough about being invited to the inner DC circle that they won't rock the boat.
Real journalists should rock the boat when it needs rocking. But we live in a very censored society where there are few real journalists working anymore.

(5,379 posts)I had Chris down as a clear supporter of Occupy, the interview in which he explains why it gave him hope gave ME hope as well.
I know he has been critical in the sense of not brushing past some of the problems, but the criticism seemed reasonable to me.
For example in his interview with Bill Moyers.
So I'm curious to learn what you're referring to, I haven't seen the "cancer" bit.

(62,276 posts)He slandered the direction action / civil disobedience and pit Occupiers against one another. He was quite literally the point at which Occupy became marginalized.

(62,325 posts)poster you refer to. You are correct in your assessment as to why no link was provided. Thanks for doing so.
I love it when people who were never supportive of OWS claim to have so much 'concern' for something they never supported in the first place. It's actually very funny.

(5,379 posts)and imho rightfully so. I don't see him discrediting the OWS movement as a whole.
Thanks for replying!

(62,325 posts)with them and they welcomed his willingness to do so and to share all the incredible knowledge he has about the world due to his own experiences. He is one of the biggest supporters of OWS.
It makes me laugh though to see someone who was nothing but critical of OWS at the time, now show so much 'concern' about Hedges who did more to get attention for them than almost anyone else.

(6,476 posts)for your thoughts.
I'm spending my day today watching and listening to Hedges on youtube and thinking about what he has to say. I found one very interesting discussion between he and Sam Harris which totally blew me away because I've become so accustomed to the shallowness of discussion and information we have in this country...by design.
Here is the Harris/Hedges discussion....
I wish others would watch this and that we could have a discussion about the topics because I find I'm starving for honest, informed discussion.
I found myself disagreeing with both men at different times and also being more than a little disappointed at Harris' snarky remarks at one point...but over all this is the kind of discussion that both informs and provokes thought.
I am an atheist...call me a 'new atheist' in the sense that I have lost all ability, and I never had a lot, to be patient with religion and feel that we have to start standing up and being counted in this battle because if we don't we will lose everything. Hedges does a wonderful job of informing on why this is true and how the supposed 'religious' right is in fact a totalitarian, fascist movement ala 'the baggers'...we have traveled so far down the road already that I'm concerned that if they shove us off the cliff and there is another collapse they are in position to finish us off.
Harris does a magnificent job of highlighting all the nonsense that all religions spew and how it keeps us from evolving and progressing.
Just some thoughts.
