Fox News’ Ed Henry Walks Out of White House Briefing After Jay Carney Ignores Him Twice

by Tommy Christopher | 9:38 pm, October 11th, 2013

At Wednesday’s impromptu press conference, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney gave President Obama a list of reporters to call on that did not include a single television reporter. During Friday afternoon’s late-starting daily briefing, Carney went deep into the briefing without calling on Fox News’ Ed Henry, and ignored Henry’s attempts to ask a question until Henry finally gave up, walking out of the briefing’s final minutes.

Carney’s snub of TV reporters Wednesday followed recent sharp exchanges with some TV reporters, particularly Ed Henry, whom Carney repeatedly posed as a partisan opponent. At Friday afternoon’s long-delayed briefing, Carney had gone through every TV reporter when Ed Henry began to ask his question. He got out “Jay…” before Carney called on The Chicago Tribune‘s Christi Parsons, and as she asked her question, Henry could be seen shaking his head.

Henry tried again on the next question, and when Carney ignored him again, Henry smiled, got up, and walked out.

While Fox News hasn’t always gotten a question at presidential press conferences, this was the first time in memory that a Fox News reporter wasn’t called on at a daily briefing.

This is how Faux Newz "reporters" should be treated. Pretend like those turds don't even exist.
Don't even acknowledge their presence.

Well done, Jay.

Glad you're here! I'm a retired broadcast journalist and I am DELIGHTED to see this. FINALLY!!!! If I were in the White House press department, I would be arguing against granting deliberately partisan hacks the privilege of news credentials. Because they're partisan hacks. During the bush/cheney years they let any riffraff in, provided that riffraff towed the company line. So you had pretend "journalists" like that jeff gannon dildo from "Talon News" seated with the White House Press corps (more like "corpse" for all the real reporting they actively refused to do!). "Talon News"????? WTF kind of bullshit operation is THAT???? He didn't even ask a question. He'd just sit there in the third row and spew some talking point and Ari or Scotty would then eat up valuable minutes of press conference time earnestly enlarging upon that talking point. Hack smear-machine outfits like breitbart and drudge were elevated to levels of credibility by being recognized in the bush/cheney press room. And they had NO business being there, taking up space that should have gone to more reputable outfits. The entire news WORLD was turned upside down on its ass and dressed in neon clown suits. It was as though, instead of a White House Press credential, you were issued a red rubber nose. HORRIFYING!!!!

It's about time that Pox Noise be put in its place. I don't care how many bright strobing lights, gleaming mirror walls and bulkheads, electronic lights and colors, and the drums and dingdong-bells they have sounding breaking stories, or how many aging frat boys with male cheerleader looks or how many scantily-dressed blondes in short skirts and spike heels they hire (notice how they ALL invariably wear sleeveless dresses and tops to show more skin - and short skirts, while seated at thin-topped little desks and tables where the numerous wide shots clearly show you their legs and hot skanky stilettos?). Hell, I'm seeing that one spread like a cancer. Damn near every female ANYWHERE on camera now has a full wardrobe of sleeveless dresses and tops! I was shocked the other day to see Mika Brzezinski with long sleeves. Everything else must still be at the dry cleaners, I guess.

I really like the subtlety of not calling on the TV hacks. They're so much about ego that this has gotta hurt - BAD and BIGTIME! ed henry: put in his place! jonathan karl: put in his place! chuck todd-blossom: put in his place! When they prove they're not partisan hacks, hey, I'm sure they'll get called upon so they can return to primping and grandstanding for the big evening newscast or around-the-clock cable inserts. I like that a LOT. About time these pompous agenda-driven assholes were put in their place. And I like seeing the print people finally being paid some attention. So often they're the ones stuck with the hind teat so the TV people can get their obligatory glory moments.

A few times on Meet The Press, some radio broadcasts for upstate New York, but mostly print journalism from Washington. He was a rarity when he was elected president of the Gridiron Club, since that is an honor usually reserved for high profile journalists (Helen preceded my father as President, although not by much), and my dad was a one man Washington bureau from a one horse town.

But toward the end of his life/career, he lamented the transformation of his profession into one of sensationalist performing, and he bemoaned that true journalism was being abandoned in favor of big headlines and lax fact-checking (Clinton impeachment as a time frame).

His answer, in a rare moment of candor, was, "we have an agenda."

Any time the RW press complains about their treatment, This is what I think of. If republicans can give Talon a seat and plenty of question time at presidential briefings, then a Democrat ought not be required to deal with any Fox reporters. Theres plenty of RW to be found at CNN and CBS, and the various print organizations. No need to let the crazy in, its not like anything they ask will be relevant or accurately reported.
