'Deadliest Catch' star tells Senate about shutdown's threat to fishermen

Frustration over the economic impact of the government shutdown boiled over Friday at a Senate hearing, among senators as well as witnesses from the private-sector.

The star witness was Keith Colburn, captain of the Wizard, a fishing vessel featured on the Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch." He's upset because the shutdown has jeopardized the Oct. 15 opening of king crab season in Alaska.

"I would rather be 4,000 miles away from here awaiting the opening of the Bristol Bay red king crab fishery," Colburn told the Senate Commerce Committee. "This is the first time in my 28 years of fishing that I haven't been in the Bering Sea in October getting ready to fish."
