Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI've noticed some real bad spellin' on DU lately
I don't know if y'all have noticed but there seems to be some really bad spellin' and some darn right awful bad grammar on DU lately.
I call it the "200 club". It's this sudden rash of anti-health care, anti-Obama, Anti-democrat postings that are wrapped up in little stories about personal experience. And they all seem to come from members who are hitting the 200s in their posts. ' I have this cousin's friend's sister who is going to have to pay thousands more in health care. Obama has really, really hurt them".
So I'd just like to say hello to that DU Troll who is quietly trying to manipulate the conversation on here. Hello and welcome to DU. We know you are here, we can smell your dirty little tricks a mile away. You think you are very smart but the twisted logic you use only works on the under-educated and the stupid.
This place is about sourcing facts. You never do that. Just an emotional tale of woe brought upon you by insuring the uninsured. Another family ripped apart by the evils of Obamacare. Another plea we shouldn't support the President based on some flimsy story about an Uncle's, sheep sheerer's nephew who has a friend whose life has been ruined because he now has to be insured. Always a low poster, a new member or, sometimes, a similar story with similar phrasing coming from several different posters over the course of a few days...and all with similar numbers of posts.
So, a pardon to new DUers who are here for excellent conversation. If you are in the 100-200 # of postings I am skeptical of you. There are trolls here who take great pleasure in trying to wreck things. As we weed them out by their terrible logic, and their lies you must pardon us as we get to know you. But please accept our welcome. We are thrilled to have you here and look forward to you sharing your knowledge and insight.
But there is mischief afoot. Luckily by fools. Fools who don't spel so good.
Happy Weekend everybody and a big welcome to all the new DUers this round of Washington craziness has brought us!

So many Tea Party members hate the Republican Party making it difficult at times to differentiate a progressive bashing from a Tea Party bashing. A post that reads "that repug boner is caving", I can't assume that person leans left anymore.
When I read a post from a new member that sounds like a freep post, I will go back and read their earlier posts, in almost every case, I will see posts that criticize republicans mixed with terms like "repugs", "retags" " repukes" etc,.
Good luck sorting them out, they often put out disinformation or contact information favorable to their cause. Hopefully, in a small way, it is flattering to have the Tea Party stalking DU.
DonRedwood
(4,359 posts)I've also noticed those questionable name-calling tactics. Very rarely do many of the long term members I follow use those name callings. Though, it could just be that I have gravitated to posters who don't use those tactics.

A big problem I had a couple of years ago. Some grammar Nazis got all over a DU'er that had poor grammar and spelling and who I know for a fact had English as her second language. Not cool. Belittling and mocking someone as being uneducated and ignorant has no place in our forum and is a form of bullying, especially when the person was indeed educated and knowledgeable and struggling to learn the language.

(5,095 posts)malokvale77
Cool then you are "almost" Norwegian then And I think we have been talking to each other before - when it come to our justice system - I think it might have been around the time Breivik was in court for his crimes, after 22 july 2011..
I try to stay civilized even if my opponent are using a faul language - I'm not to well into the more colorfully language in the english language, so I keep it civilized - so at least I have my corner covered
Yeah - Uff da is a way to express everything - from a mild confusing to the opposite - and many americans who have ancestry back to Norway - have told that they do remember their older family members often express it that way when something was going bad... It is kind of a classic Norwegian expression - and most people will use it one way or another I guess..

(4,879 posts)Many here were upset that Norway would not give him the death sentence.
Uff da, so barbaric.
Diclotican
(5,095 posts)malokvale77
I do remember the uproar - when Breivik got a life sentence - of 21 year - plus "protective custody" for as long as it would be seen needed to keep him out of circulation - and from what is known he would be there in his prison cell for a long time - mostly because he have never shown any form of remorse - or at least to say that he might had been in the wrong.. He have stated, rather publicity that if he was given his freedom again - he would try to go after the government - or organizations like AUF again - to kill even more if he had the possibility to do it..
But, it is Norwegian LAW who gave him that sentence - and in our constitution it is stated rather clearly that no law can be given after the fact - and that a murderer can be sentenced to a stricter law than the strictest law who was at the books when the crime happened.. And at the time mr Breivik killed so many and kind of turned us all upside down here in Norway - the strictest punishment you could be given was 21 year plus be kept in protective custody - for as long as deemed necessary - of course a court would have to decide every 5 year - if persons like Breivik is sane enough to possible given a new Chance in life.. Even though I doubt Breivik will be given his freedom the next 30 year.. Mostly because no Justice Minister in Norway, will pardon this guy.. It would be a kind of pardon that would ruin chances for the Prime minister to ever have any governance in Norway for life - and I guess mr Breivik will be kept under lock and key at least to his 70th birthday.
I think Norway have a decent law system - who works in Norway - we have not had death penalty in Norway since 1848 - when the last one was hanged in Oslo, he had been stealing horses and doing many other rather horrible crimes in a few years - and after that - everyone who was punished with "death penalty" was instead given life without parole in some of the fortresses in Norway - where they had to work for the best of the community for the rest of their natural life.. But as the century progressed - also the justice system progresses - and by the late 1860s some of the first modern prisoners was build - and the criminals kept there.. Most of them is today closed down and demolished - but it exist a few ones, who still is in use - albeit modernized to a better standard than the 1870s...
The last time death penalty was used in Norway - was after World War two - when 25 of the worst criminals, who had been supporters of Germany when they was in this country - got the death penalty - as part of the court proses after the war - it was officially over 40 who got the death penalty - but most of them was given pardon from the death penalty - and in most cases was given pardon even from prison by 1960.. Most of them wa in fact given freedom in the late 1950s - but was not given "all the rights of a citizen" for another decade.. Aka the right to vote in elections and so one.. And even the use of death penalty in Norway - bu 1945-46 when the proses against war criminals, and supporters of the occupying Germany - the use of Death Penalty was not that popular - and it is maybe one of the reasons most of them who formally was given the death penalty in the end was not killed - even if they definitely could have been excecuted...
And most of them who ended up death after the cort process was shot by rifles - either at the fortress in Oslo or in Trondheim a few ones was also executed in Bergen - but for the most part, it was in Oslo and Trondheim the 25 was executed after the war... And they was given that sentence by the treason laws in our law system - and the military law who until 1975 formally could give death penalty to enemies of the State.. Today no one can be executed in Norway - at least not legal - as we do not have any death penalty - that be in the civilian law system - or the military system.. In fact all criminal charges over fines is given to the civilian court to be deiced there - as the military system is not sovereign from the civilian court system in Norway..

Because I LIKE them. Noah Webster wasn't necessarily correct! If he had been, why don't we spell "neighbour" as "nabor" (apologies to Jim; I still like "Gomer Pyle USMC" ? I drove my teachers in high school nuts with it.
The main problem I see here on DU is the unstated expectation that one must support everything President Obama and all past Democrats have done.
That is not going to happen, not from me.
I believe Mr. Obama was completely wrong in not pushing for single-payer, caving on the public option, re-authorising the Patriot Act and all this NSA BS.
I believe Bill Clinton was completely wrong in rolling over and playing dead on health care in 1994, and even worse for jumping on Newt Gingrich's "the era of big government is over!" bandwagon.

I reasoned he may have been clumsily trying to suggest that's why there is so much RW resistance to the ACA, they won't be told to do something for their own good, from THAT MAN in the White House. To which I'd say, give us more 'black' laws!
Plus another one's first post saying he was a Republican, liberals are intolerant of free speech and he wanted to debate the facts and was giving us a chance. With some wrong facts added, too.
