Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson missed practice Thursday to travel to South Dakota for personal reasons. Several reports have indicated that a two-year old boy in critical condition in a Sioux Falls hospital is Petersons son, though police would not reveal details about the boys family in a Friday morning press conference. Sean Jensen of the St. Paul Pioneer Press said via Twitter on Friday morning that he spoke with Nelson Peterson, Adrians father, who told him that the child is indeed Adrians.
We are asking for prayers and for respect for our family as deal with this tragic situation, Nelson Peterson told Jensen. ESPNs John Clayton confirmed the report.
TMZ.com reported on Friday morning that Petersons son was in critical condition after he suffered a severe beating at the hands of 27-year-old Joseph Patterson, who had been dating the boys mother. Law enforcement officials told TMZ that emergency responders arrived at the house on Wednesday afternoon, only to find the boy unresponsive, with multiple head injuries that were consistent with abuse. (Update: City Pages, a newspaper in Minneapolis, is now reporting that the child is not expected to survive his injuries.)

On edit - I'm curious about the facts of the incident, I hope it isn't a case of using SBS to pursue charges as new information exists

(55,445 posts)A co-worker from one of my summer jobs in college punched his infant son to death (not that it makes much difference, but he'd had an shitty upbringing and was getting help from social services for a wealth of mental/emotional issues...We all knew at all times he was a potential timebomb and never to "prime" him)...
He was just 20 years old at the time...Right now he's around year 14 of a 40 year sentence...

(10,362 posts)and just give Peterson an hour alone with him. He'd never lay hands on a kid the rest of his life.

(550 posts)"Up to 25 years"
Really? REALLY?
I'm sorry, but a person capable of doing that to a child will ALWAYS be a grave danger to society. Always. If found guilty, he should be locked up until he expires, and I think even that is extremely generous.

(2,679 posts)If he dies the charge will also include murder. But I hear you "up to 25 years" is to short in my book for scum that beat up kids and animals.
