So I need to apply to the state for Medicaid...prove my income, or lack thereof etc? I do have some savings...would that be against me? A home and a truck...which does not go anywhere?

7. Under the ACA's expanded Medicaid it is just income considered (not your assets).

Go through http://healthcare.gov as the Federal Government is running the health care exchange
for Michigan.

We own our home outright..a truck that could run if we could afford insurance..and one that does not run..and a savings account...do we have to be in abject poverty?

because you will be asked on the form to sign over your estate for repayment of all charges made on your behalf when you, or, if you die before your spouse, your spouse, die. It's basically nothing but a loan with your estate as collateral. No will can supercede this.

Given how uncertain my income is and what the future holds, I am extremely reluctant to sign on Medicaid, not to mention so many doctors will not accept patients who are on it.

more physicians should be accepting it.

Your argument about the estate recovery issue seems to be it is better to not get health care and
die than to get health care, live longer, and possibly have the government recover the costs for
provided services from your estate.
