House GOP Waiting On Obama After Submitting New Debt Limit Plan

House Republicans submitted a new plan for raising the debt limit to President Barack Obama Thursday at 10 p.m., and are awaiting a response, according to Politico.

The latest proposal would raise the debt ceiling through Nov. 22 and fund the government until Dec. 15, Politico reports. This would then prompt budget talks in aims of reaching a broader deal on spending and debt.

The debt ceiling must be raised by an amount that will fall due not in this but the next Congress, and the continuing resolution must be for the entire fiscal year: neither can have any condition attached.

They have to drop the gun and kick it over to the officer; they cannot just tuck it back in the waist-band and drape a shirt-tail over it.

But that wasn't even in the Senate "clean" CR we've been asking the House GOP to pass. A CR through the next fiscal would be a completely new demand. Like I said, I'm not against it, though I do agree that appropriations by CR are less desirable than an actual budget.

And from a cut-throat's view, I would not much mind watching these un-American reptiles repeat the whole exercise between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

But it must end in absolute defeat for them: they cannot be allowed even the least hint of cover to drape over their shame when this is done.

It's primary purpose is to try to deflect negative public opinion from the GOP toward President Obama by tossing him the hot potato.

Do they honestly think they could change public opinion of them in that time if they got that short reprieve? I would think republican hate would be extra strong if they pulled this shit right around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Or do they falsely think that the holidays would give them more leverage? Just like they thought the govt shutdown and default would do?

Pres. Obama should say 'no' and hold out for a longer term for raising the debt ceiling and for a CR that runs through next October.

However --- it is a good point about what the Repuglicans are asking for --- it proves just how insane and irrational they have become.

Do they think they will be better off if they have to go through all of this in just another month?
Do they think that arguing for cuts in Social Security and Medicare and for more tax cuts for the wealthy will increase their leverage with the public thirty days or so from now?

If Obama and the congressional Democrats were really going for the Repuglican jugular, maybe they ought to give them just until November.

We shall see if it works out that way for them this time. It's up to the President.

Consumer confidence is in the shitter. People are out of work because of this, and pushing the crises to just before Christmas is going to guarantee a bad Christmas season for the economy. Since many companies see Christmas as the time when they actually make a profit, it appears that Republicans are Hell bent (emphasis on hell) to destroy the economy during the Christmas Profit taking season.

Count the number of times the media showed flag draped coffins ... now imagine a steady stream of crying children (and frantic parents and retail workers and small business owners, et al) because Santa isn't going to come this year.

They don't give a crap if their approval rating is in the toilet. Their "principles" and their donors mean more to them and that gives them the power.

Makes no sense to only raise debt limit until Nov and fund only until Dec. We will have to do this all over again when those temporary timelines expire.
