Establishment GOPers Assail Tea Party On Shutdown

Establishment GOPers Assail Tea Party On Shutdown

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- From county chairmen to national party luminaries, veteran Republicans across the country are accusing tea party lawmakers of staining the GOP with their refusal to bend in the budget impasse in Washington.

The Republican establishment also is signaling a willingness to strike back at the tea party in next fall's elections.

<...>

Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour is just as pointed, saying this about the tea party-fueled refusal to support spending measures that include money for Obama's health care law: "It never had a chance."

The anger emanating from Republicans like Sununu and Barbour comes just three years after the GOP embraced the insurgent political group and rode its wave of new energy to return to power in the House.

Now, they're lashing out with polls showing Republicans bearing most of the blame for the federal shutdown, which entered its 11th day Friday. In some places, they're laying the groundwork to take action against the tea party in the 2014 congressional elections.

over on MSNBC and I think CNN, also. He said they all knew there never was a way to get Obamacare...forgot the exact wording.

But it did propel Cruz to the top of the pathetic heap of Presidential wannabes. Think that's going to be a thing of the past...they are truly pissed at him...and a 1st year Junior Senator at that. And "poor" Mike Lee...Lawrence O'Donnell made mincemeat out of both of them last night.

Reportedly, he is part of this government shutdown, Social Security cutback nonsense. I just called to cite the 03/05/13 study in Medical News Today which disproved the latest Republicon lie that everybody's life expectancy is increasing. That is very true among the wealthy (which is probably why the cosseted little narcissists are thinking of it), but it is less true even among the middle class, and poor women have actually seen their life expectancy go down, even if they manage to reach old age. These people have no idea how malnutrition makes your bones and ligaments more fragile, especially as you get older. And these women are commonly ordered to do heavy lifting and carrying and pulling and pushing in their work. I know a 68-year-old woman who is expected to lift, carry, and sometimes struggle with 60-70 pound disabled children, not to mention large pieces of equipment. This is wrong! These people need their Social Security, and they have earned it!

PS I myself do not qualify for Social Security benefits, and that is all right with me. I started out very poor in life, going hungry a lot, abusive father and siblings, but a lot of wonderful people helped me. I know how lucky I have been.
