Why does it always have to be us doing what they want? I'm hoping that Obama will go big for the left and ask for an increase in revenue from the wealthiest since we are and have been at war.

(879 posts)start making demands over the CR or Debt Ceiling. That just legitimizes the Republican strategy of saying that these are things that can be negotiated over.
After a clean CR is passed and the debt ceiling is raised, then the House and Senate can pass competing budgets, and they can go to conference, resolve differences, and then send it to the President. That's how government is supposed to work. Now in that budget, we better be getting some liberal things. The audacity of these Republicans to make demands and try to force their agenda on the American people. If they want something, they also have to give something. And they should be giving more since Obama can just veto anything if he doesn't like it. So yes, he should ask for plenty in exchange for giving them something, but none of it should come from this shutdown and debt ceiling game the Republicans are playing. The Republicans know they are a minority party (ironically because they are void of minorities), so they have no way of getting anything they want without giving in to a lot of stuff they don't want. That's why they resorted to this strategy in the first place. But Obama making demands is no better than the Republicans doing so now.
