So Remember Those Truckers Who Were Going To Block DC Traffic And Arrest Politicians? LOL
Earlier in the week, Georgia trucker Earl Conlon told U.S. News And World Report that the following would occur this Friday in Washington D.C. as part of a rally called Truckers Ride for the Constitution.
[T]ractor-trailer drivers will circle the beltway three lanes deep as he rides with other participants to Congress to seek the arrest of congressmen for allegedly disregarding the Constitution.
The truckers circling I-495 will keep the left lane open for emergency vehicles, Conlon said, but everybody that doesnt have a supporter sticker on their window, good luck: Nobody in, nobody out. The trucks will be going the 55 mile-per-hour speed limit.
D.C. commuters who wish to be allowed past the convoy must have T2SDA an acronym for the events original name, Truckers to Shut Down America written on their vehicle, he said.
Its going to be real fun for anyone who is not a supporter, Conlon said, [and] if cops decide to give us a hard time, were going to lock the brakes up, were going to stop right there, were going to be a three lane roadblock.
Conlon cited the idea of a citizens grand jury meaning a pool of jurors convened without court approval as the mechanism for indicting the officials.
We want these people arrested, and were coming in with the grand jury to do it, he said. We are going to ask the law enforcement to uphold their constitutional oath and make these arrests. If they refuse to do it, by the power of the people of the United States and the peoples grand jury, they dont want to do it, we will.
We the people will find a way.

The Senator Cruz example of green eggs.
Except what sounded like an incredible recipe for watching 18-wheelers get launched off the highway for being anti-teamster idiots (Proof: They think exactly like Michele Bachmann.) is suddenly being back-pedaled as just a hoax because heres Earl telling the Washington Post the whole thing was to ruffle some feathers.
The comments to U.S. News were designed to do one thing and one thing only: stir the feather of the mainstream media, said Conlon, a father of three. Nothing gets the attention of the mainstream media like some sort of disastrous threat. I knew it was going to ruffle some feathers.
So while thousands of truckers may indeed come to Washington on Friday and many of them may travel along the inner loop of the Beltway, honking their horns, they wont intentionally shut down traffic, he said.
First of all, we know it would not be right to go to D.C. to lock down the city by the Belt loop, said Conlon, 50, a veteran truck driver who has suffered through more than his share of traffic jams. That wouldnt be fair to the people there.
And Conlon is not sure that he will even make it to town Friday.

Listened to 'em for 300 miles back in 76-77, going westbound into LA on I-10.
We were always "right behind" a "massive convoy" that would be televised entering southern California. Never could catch it and when we pulled into the 76 at milliken with the TV cameras on the overpass and the parking lot full of 4-wheelers, Mike Parkhurst(Overdrive) looked positively heartbroken when we told him it wasn't coming.
"I'm so happy to be retired!"

I saw lawyers quoting DC, Virginia and Maryland law.to these ignorant, clueless people which stopped the conversations in their tracks.

(24,370 posts)the traffic on the CB is WAAAY down from what it was only ten years ago. Another contributing factor is the raising of speed limits. There isn't much need for a "Smokey Report" anymore because most fleets won't run much faster than the speed limit anyway.
You used to hear "Break 1-9 for some local information" which meant the driver was looking for directions.
That request is incredibly rare today.
These days I just turn it on when there is a backup, so I can learn the cause. More often than not, My CB is off.

(17,180 posts)Yes, young'uns, they used to ask that you apply for a license. Our call sign was XXX-1234 (actually, I remember the actual number, and the NSA probably knows too).
As I recall, the FCC got swamped with applications, and half the people didn't bother getting a licence anyway, so they finally just said "screw it, try not to blow yourselves up."
Ah, the good ol' days of SSB, Heathkit linear amplifiers and 108-inch whips.

(4,788 posts)but on my drive to the New Carrollton metro station the all-news radio WTOP had some updates on the truckers. Some were coming up I95 from Richmond but none had been spotted coming down from Frederick. They also reported that Ted Cruz and Michelle Bachmann, among other slimy Congress Critters, were planning to meet with the truckers. I figure it won't be much. I have taken to calling it "F*ckers Ride Against the Constitution" or "Racist Truckers Ride Against a Black President".

(9,001 posts)It even shows a photograph of trucks blocking traffic. (I realize a photograph is not definitive proof )
A little further digging.
http://washington.cbslocal.com/2013/10/11/truck-convoy-protest-causing-traffic-problems-on-capital-beltway/
But WNEWs John Domen, who began following the trucks as they drove north past a truck stop on Interstate-95 in Dumfries, Va., said trucks were taking up all four lanes of the Inner Loop of the Beltway in Annandale, Va. and had slowed to 10 mph, blocking traffic from getting by.
A Virginia State Police officer approached the small convoy and pulled over one truck to the shoulder. The other three trucks also pulled over to the side of the road near Exit 52A. After speaking with police, the trucks resumed their drive along the Beltway at about 40 mph. The posted speed limit for the entire 64-mile length of the interstate is 55 mph.
Now, that said, they're idiots. But we've seen what useful idiots have done over the past several years goaded on by the likes of Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh. I think they should be kept track of (not spied on) rather than dismissed.

My friend is a trucker and she knew nothing about this - but she said the anti-Obama hate talk on trucker
radios is nonstop. I met one of these right/wing truckers few weeks ago - scary stupid gal who claimed she
wasn't political and then she went into a "I hate Obama" tirade and said ACA was going to ruin the country and the
Obama's forgot Bo on vacation and flew him on a private jet to Marthas Vineyard.

(45,447 posts)and circled the beltway without much issue. They came from the south. VA state police pulled them over and warned them to stop holding up traffic or they would get ticketed, but otherwise no problems in MD. They had left the beltway by 11 AM.
Today was rainy as hell and accidents snarled some spots, but there apparently weren't enough truckers to do much damage. Teabaggers are claiming this is just the beginning and it will be worse next week. I doubt it, but we'll see.
