Threat of Capital Beltway shutdown is a hoax, trucker says

It can be hard to get attention for your agenda in a town like Washington, but Georgia trucker Earl Conlon figured out a way: take the Beltway hostage.

Conlon’s comments in a U.S. News & World Report story that he and thousands of truckers from across the country (and possibly Canada) planned to come to the nation’s capital Friday and bring traffic to a standstill on the inner loop of the Capital Beltway zinged across the Web and were picked up by outlets ranging from Fox News to the Huffington Post. The rally was dubbed “Truckers for the Constitution.”

But it is a hoax.

Hey, it's sort of like what the Republicans are doing now; you know, take the government hostage and declare so-called negotiating points for opening back the government!

I just read on a conservative website that Obama is going to have the National Guard seize the beltway tomorrow morning so the truckers can't have their protest.

Basically, they claim they are going to close off the beltway around Washington, D.C., until Obamacare is repealed and lawmakers who aren't obeying their version of the Constitution are arrested. Not surprisingly, all those lawmakers are Democrats.

There are three big trucking associations:

American Trucking Association (they represent trucking companies) says they're against the shutdown:

Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (the voice of the driver who owns his truck) has also spoken against it but the statement's no longer on their website.

The Teamsters Union (which represents far more than truckers) doesn't say, but they're almost certainly against arresting Nancy Pelosi.

The thing is, very few truckers want to waste driving hours, fuel or customers going round in circles trying to prove a point.
