Duggar said he believes faith and family are under attack in the United States.

"Our faith is really under attack right now," he said, adding that "assaults on religious freedom" are historic under the Obama administration.

He called it an administration "that really openly says we want to see the demise as of these certain principles," citing the recent efforts in the U.S. military to limit Christian troops from sharing their faith.

The Duggars aren't strangers to politics. The patriarch of the Duggar family, former Arkansas state legislator James Robert "Jim Bob," brought 12 of the 19 Duggars on the road last year to campaign for Rick Santorum.

“There’s only one candidate in this race who embraces our values and that man is Rick Santorum. There’s only one man that has stood by his principles, who has stood by his convictions, who has stood by his family like he is today,” 24-year-old Josh Duggar told Florida voters. “He’s standing with his family.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center has said that the Family Research Council is an anti-gay hate group. From the SPLC site:

The Family Research Council (FRC) bills itself as “the leading voice for the family in our nation’s halls of power,” but its real specialty is defaming gays and lesbians. The FRC often makes false claims about the LGBT community based on discredited research and junk science. The intention is to denigrate LGBT people in its battles against same-sex marriage, hate crimes laws, anti-bullying programs and the repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.

“I think from an early age my parents really instilled in us the importance of, not only being involved in politics, but really being active in your community and realizing that life is made up of a lot more than just you,” Duggar said in an exclusive interview with CNSNews.com.

Duggar said his role at FRC fits with Christ’s teaching about the virtue of having a servant’s heart – a truth he said his parents also taught by example.

“My parents have definitely exemplified that in their lives,” he said. “Having 19 children is not an easy task.”

9. I remember that bit about blanket training.

Michelle mentioned it in the very first show they ever did, before it was a series. It was a brief, almost throwaway mention, it did not explain the concept. I distinctly remember that because I had no idea what blanket training was, so went off to look it up. Physically hurting a baby because it moves off a blanket on the floor? How horrible.

Right before they started their series, I saw that same show in reruns. The blanket training reference had been removed. Interesting, isn't it? If she was so right, why was it taken out?

I don't care how many children they have, I just can't look them and not be ill at the realization that at least half of them were blanket trained.

19. I would be all in favor of taxing excessive births...

...if we had already had universal sex education and access to contraceptives for a generation or two, and if we had a culture of conservation and respect for the safety net in place. But if there were any chance of passing such a tax today, we know it would just be used for poor-punching.

Besides, if we limited births based on an ability to pay, we'd also need inheritance tax hikes to stop subsidizing profligacy by the wealthy.

All these things would make us a very different sort of nation.

I really don't give a flying fuck how many kids his parents have; or how many kids he has. I do care that he is an Executive of FRC and I do care how they feel about gays. It's not to early to do all we can to be sure he is not elected to any political office.

ETA: Some *Amish families in my area have had 15 or so children. The difference is: they have a much smaller footprint then even me, they don't force their religion on the rest of us, via preaching or politics. Indeed they follow the "pray behind doors instead of showing off how pious you are", and they are pacifists, non materialist, and give their children a choice of staying Amish or going English.
Oh and there is no love lost between the Mennonites and Amish. I agree with the Amish: the Mennonites are hypocrites.

Glad to know I can express my views on that subject as long as I only target women based on their political ideals (or that or their spouse) -it appears one's criticisms of women's choices are welcomed if we frame such in the right way.

Personally it's none of my damned business. Threads about the parents and their political actions - fine, no need to drag peoples' kids into it or their personal choices relating to choices made on birth though.

It's a free country, so criticize away - just remember that the principles one espouses may come back to haunt them later when the subject takes a turn they don't like.
