(24,766 posts)and ours doubled on the exchange. Also, deductible went from $500 to $6,000. Don't know why my scenario is different.
Union may be saving us.

(103,856 posts)and understand that "oneguy" is probably NOT in the demographic that the plan was intended to aid.
There are lots of folks who are pissed at how much the plan they have, is costing them, and who thought they could "cheap-out" with the ACA..
It's INSURANCE, and actuarial tables rule in the world of insurance
Unless you are poor or young, or uncoverable, the ACA is not going to be a bargain for you..
cilla4progress
(24,766 posts)That's my scenario.
So what do you suggest for us? When I"M THE ONE GUY falling through the cracks, it's hard for me to like it and see it as a positive.

(21,475 posts)If your rates went up it is because of greedy Insurance Companies, not Obamacare. You can check out the exchanges and see if better rates might be availavble for you. Obamacare was designed for those without insurance, not for those already with insurance..
Travis_0004
(5,417 posts)Its not possible for an insurance company to raise rates just to make more money, due to the ACA, so if rates are going up, it has to be due to rising cost, and yes, some of which are due to Obamacare.

(497 posts)And I was moderate in my tone, keeping to the facts as I know them (dual American Canadian citizen here), with the only opinions being that the Canadian model is better than the American one and that Obamacare is a step in the right direction.
But it's a moderated site. Although the other posts there seemed to have been put up within an hour of being submitted, mine, submitted four hours ago, has not. I suspect that it will not be.

(37,161 posts)Assuming there's any truth to it at all - and count on the Heritage Foundation to cherry-pick their data - why exactly wouldn't an insurance company gouge to kingdom come when they can fob all the blame onto the ACA?
It's not as if they hadn't raised rates before.

(4,119 posts)Great!! Maybe if all the insurance companies raise all our premiums, we will all cancel them and sign up for Obamacare. The insurance companies will go out of business and we'd have Single-payer which is what we wanted in the first place.

(8,758 posts)No where in the story does it say he had to use the exchanges. That means he's already got insurance some how. Maybe the company is seeing customers fleeing them to take their chances on the exchanges. Maybe the company fears that, so they're jacking everybody across the board.
Either way, this is something his insurance company is choosing to do to their customers for no reason than they want to because they can.

(33,224 posts)scenario 1: the employer used to offer insurance with low premiums and low copays... and a lifetime cap of $100,000. The existing insurance is going to be cheap because it is worthless in a real world situation. Lifetime caps are no longer legal.
scenario 2: a machine shop employs 49 guys and 1 woman. The insurer offers the company a preferential rate because it costs less to insure men. Gender is no longer a rating criteria.
scenario 3: the trendy restaurant employs predominately young people. The insurer offers cheap insurance because the group tends to have low risk, so they offer a cheap catastrophic policy that doesn't comply with the silver level of coverage.
Mix and match to your hearts content. The common thing is that the new insurance is better.

(94,727 posts)First - if you don't have insurance (whixh is the goal of the exchanges) you don't have premiums to go up.
Second, if you do have insurance, you don't have to do anything, so there'd be no change.
Only issue is if you Insurance company aritrarily decided to raise premiums, in which case it would affect everyone (at least in his company or group) and there'd be a lit more evidence than a post at a political blog.
