Oops. Not the President's job to call on Chuck Todd and company. Can you say shutout?

So Mr. Todd. You say it's not your job to do your job? Well, I guess then the President will just have to answer questions from real journalists who thinks that being a journalist is their job.
Oh and stop with this BS the damn shutdown is the fault of everyone. Start reporting that fact correctly.

(30,099 posts)I think he's starting to realize the first thing out of Todd's mouth would be "isn't it both sides?" and he's starting to feel as nauseated as the rest of us.

(2,795 posts)I truly think they are peeing a little in their pants at the country going into default. It's never happened before and what a GREAT story it will be! They will get to report on a history making event. The coverage could go on for weeks as one domino falls after another.
I think they actually are reporting in such a middle of the road way to keep the heat off the rethugs as a way of keeping this thing going. I think they are looking at their fame and ratings before the good of the country. Seems so many people are seduced by money, fame, power, notoriety. Even at the cost of a lot of other people.

(338 posts)Does anyone really think Harry Reid is against funding cancer research? Reports like that would turn me off from the media. The newspaper editors are dealing with facts, not partisan talking points. Great job Mr. President.
Lets end this thing now. Obama compromised and agreed to sequestration already. They know Obamacare can be tinkered with, but won't go away. Passing individual bills for political gain as 800,000 people sit at home from work is ridiculous. I don't even think that is a partisan statement. It is time to move on and take the debt ceiling issue off the table forever. GOP you lose that chip.
Media, either support the shutdown like Fox and Limbaugh or report the facts. Cut the crap.
What will it take to reasonably end this thing?

I'm thinking it's b/c PBO as pissed at the fucking corp kochwhores as we are.
Obama refuses to call on any TV network reporters at press conference, leading to nationwide false equivalence shortage.

(45,984 posts)Although many seem to have forgotten that long before I first heard of Chuck Todd.
The world would be a lot better place if the Bushies were called on their BS during the run up to the Iraq war in 2002/03. America would be a little more stable if journalists had called impeachment-happy GOP congresscritters on their BS in 1998.

(57,936 posts)TV phrases. It's a complex story. Print media can do it justice. Most TV cannot. It's not a story that can be told by calling in a Democrat and a Republican and letting them bluster on about their unfounded opinions.
You need a lot of facts and you need to understand those lots of facts to be able to understand why the Republicans are grievously wrong.
Good for Obama. Some stories are right for TV coverage, but given the coverage that TV gives these kinds of stories now, this budget/deficit matter is better for print media. The questions of print media are more likely to be in depth.

(2,345 posts)I was actually surprised at how many questions he took. Then I started noticing a lot of the reporters were unrecognizable faces... except the Sam Stein guy, I've seen him on TV a few times.
What struck me was the completeness of his answers. He was talking as if he actually understood what was going on.
One other thing that caught my attention was the couple of times that he said "This is not me saying this; It's you guys. You know what I'm talking about." And in my mind, I agreed. He was repeating what the TV News Readers were reading out loud on Tee Vee.

Now the TV reporters should not get paid seeing as they aren't doing their jobs either.
Though, I'd like to see Obama do TDS this week. They ask better questions anyway.

(14 posts)I don't know why the President even bothers to have these press gatherings. He dosen't owe any one an explanation for his ideas or actions. What he's doing is for our own good. I wish those twits on the right would wise up and get with the program.

(8,217 posts)It is important to disabuse reporters of the learned behavior of taking it easy on Republicans while nitpicking on some Democrats:
Republican/Conservatives have used the following tactics for Media to give them a break:
-Attack the Media for being too Liberal, even when they are being objective.
-Force reporters to agree to egregious interview stipulations(otherwise they won't get an interview) (Exempli Gratia - Rush Limbaugh forcing Katie Couric to agree to not being asked certain questions and to allow him to not be interrupted)
-Attack the Media, going after specific reporters and heads to make an example out of them, even when it is done in a Private setting. (E.G. NPR Exec Vivian Schiller getting ousted due to two high profile controversies from Ron Schiller(No Relation) through a "sting" and the firing of Juan Williams which was justified)
Through those kinds of tactics, while still denigrating the media as having a "Liberal Bias", makes me just want to say that they have a lot of nerve.
So they do false equivalencies trying to find the smallest things to get Democrats for, just to show that the problem is both sides.
Even then, you'll notice not as many Democrats go in to the news circuit nowadays.
