AMR Joins Airlines With Jet Delays on Government Shutdown


(Bloomberg) Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL) and AMR Corp. (AAMRQ)’s American Airlines failed to get new jets on schedule as fallout from the partial shutdown of the federal government rippled across the global aerospace industry.

An Airbus SAS A319 narrow-body jet due to be handed over tomorrow to American is stuck with the European planemaker, and a Bombardier Inc. (BBD/B) CRJ900 regional jet for a Delta unit remained with the Canadian manufacturer, the airlines said today.

The tardy planes at Delta and American showed the spread of disruptions from idled U.S. government operations. JetBlue Airways Corp. (JBLU) and US Airways Group Inc. also have jets marooned in Europe, while the trade group for makers of smaller planes said a shutdown lasting until mid-October would delay 130 aircraft valued at $1.5 billion.

“The longer the shutdown continues, the more likely it is to cause economic difficulties and job losses,” the General Aviation Manufacturers Association said in a statement. It said deliveries of 12 new planes already had been stalled. ...............(more)
