My neighbor is furious.

Her two sons have both attended a local preschool/daycare a few blocks from here and they have always paid as much as they could but had help from Head Start among other agencies. Now the school told her that her youngest son, who is 4, may not be able to attend the school until either Head Start gets funded or they can pay the full amount due. This area is a simple working class neighborhood and these people are no exception. They both work so that the kids can have clothes, food, and other necessities. They also both work the same shift so daycare is an absolute necessity.
She told me that she will NEVER vote republican again because of this. And her parents and mother in law are all life long repubs. Her husband told me the same thing. Now in the interest of fairness, they told me that the grandparents can take care of the kid but only on a limited basis since they also work. So I guess all one can say is "Way to go Boehner and co!" Keep up the great work. You will be history sooner than later at this pace. Maybe these kids and my kid can read about the repukes in their history books in high school.

I do hope they get their head start funding ASAP, this shutdown is wrong.

Sadly I haven't had republican friends since grad school and that was 2007. Many might disagree, but I think that is sad commentary on my part, I respect republicans , but throw the tea bags overboard!

They've all been shafted by Boehner.

but while reading this I got a call that the workshop was cancelled, due to the Federal Presenters not being able to attend. It was about funding of Forest Management Plans for private land owners. We are retired now, but worked in the field for 30+ years.

I asked her what was happening to her program and she said that part of the program is funded Sept to Sept and is untouched. Part of the program will face a decision in a couple of months and another part requires additional $$ from current budget.

Most people vote party by habit, not because they pay attention to politics, and that goes for Dems as well. At that income level, it's all they can do to hold on. They need educating -- they don't need to have their children punished.

But I was speaking specifically about the Tea Partiers in Congress and the Repubs in congress who are backing them. I wouldn't dream of punishing a child because of their parents' voting records.

And I'm glad that they are finally understanding what voting Republican really means.

That said, their attitude is typical of Republicans to me. They don't ever "get it" until something personally affects them. Republican voters do not have good ability to put themselves in other people's shoes and think "hmmm...this could happen to me, too!" Empathy is not big on the list. But when something actually affects THEM...then they tend to understand.
