The shutdown is going to start killing our livestock and pets soon.

FDA won't be releasing any more lots of animal vaccines. And the factory that makes prednisolone, a critical drug for my practice that has been on manufacturer backorder and which many of us vets are running out of, cannot reopen since FDA is not conducting inspections. Eventually drug manufacture and importation of all kinds will CEASE. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, folks.

".....Veterinary programs affected by the government shutdown include the closure of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service's (APHIS) Center for Veterinary Biologics (CVB), which verifies the safety of animal vaccines before releasing them into the marketplace. Due to the CVB closure, AVMA said food-animal producers may not be able to vaccinate their flocks or herds, “which will endanger herd health, food safety and public health.”....."

Please note, DUers, that this includes vaccines for companion animals. There is no separate government agency for verifying safety of THEIR vaccines.

My beloved doggie is almost 16 and on 3 to 4 different meds, depending on her daily needs. You'll compromise her health over my cold, dead body!

I am a vegetarian and never eat meat, but I don't want those pour souls to suffer any more than they do already.
