McCain: We Should Be 'Embarrassed' About Shutdown, GOP Pushed 'False Premise' on Obamacare

VIDEO here: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/mccain-we-should-be-embarrassed-about-shutdown-gop-pushed-false-premise-on-obamacare/

Senator John McCain has been one of the strongest Republican voices in Congress opposing the conservative efforts to repeal, defund, or delay Obamacare. He took to the Senate floor on Tuesday to continue pressing that point, as well as scolding Congress and saying they should all be “ashamed” for allowing the government shutdown to keep going.

McCain was set off by the news that during the shutdown, military benefits are being held up. He said Congress is so unpopular that “we’re down to blood relatives and paid staffers” at this point, asking his colleagues, “Shouldn’t we be embarrassed about this? Shouldn’t we be ashamed?”

McCain knew conservatives didn't like him at all. They actually tried to recall him in AZ at one point, which isn't even legal. He knew conservatives were not exactly thrilled with him and weren't exactly going to beat a path to the polls, so he needed someone to fire up the base, and a young, attractive bomb-thrower was just the ticket. I don't think the 'powers to be' selected her even remotely.

McCain's. If he really is ashamed of his party, then he should denounce it and resign. That's a message that goes much, much further than a bit of chatter on the Senate floor.

McCain did us all a favor...it gave the far-right Tea Party TheoCratic Fascists confidence to "come out the closet"...a few "rape is a gift from gods" and government shutdown later and these people are ostracizing themselves by the very virtue of their rhetoric driving the right in this nation further into the niche' enclave of snake-handling bible thumpers and new-right militias.

NO, McCain may have saved the republic because the monster is out the bag.

Senate Passes 'Clean' CR to Avoid Shutdown, Punts to House

Finally, Friday afternoon, the body, in a vote of 54 to 44, passed its version of a CR to avoid a government shutdown on October 1. The Senate-passed version amended a previously passed version from the House of Representatives.

McCain is a throwback to when the party was sane. He has his crazy moments when he tries to balance the then and the now that come out a little (or a lot) wacky, but I do think that way deep in his brain he's probably got common sense buried. If the PTB don't like him it's a good sign, given who the PTB are.

McCain Would Like To See House Vote On Clean CR

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said that the House should vote on a clean continuing resolution to fund the government on CNN's 'The Situation Room.'

Anchor Wolf Blitzer asked McCain if the House should vote on a clean bill without any language defunding or delaying the Affordable Care Act.

"I would like to see that," McCain responded.

McCain called the Tea Party attempt to use the continuing resolution to defund Obamacare a "fool's errand."

I like the "blood relatives and paid staffers" line. I think the second cousins are about to jump ship, and the first cousins aren't far behind.

I do remember him doing the surprising and right thing on a number of occasions. Among other things, I remember him grilling some radio executives about their blacklisting of the Dixie Chicks, criticizing the Bush administration for preventing unionizing of TSA personnel, and releasing an epic snark bomb against his primary opponent for questioning Obama's birthplace, complete with scenes from the Lion King.

It's really too bad that presidential campaigns are often exercises in building up hatred. Before 2008, Obama and McCain were probably two of the politicians most palatable to the other side. Now each side despises the other one.
