"What do you have a higher opinion of " Congress or Toenail fungus", Congress 41% Toenail fungus 44%....
Public Policy Polling, a Democratic-leaning firm based in North Carolina, asked a series of questions trying to gauge support for Congress compared with government-run institutions such as the Internal Revenue Service, health problems such as toenail fungus, cockroaches and dog poop.
The findings may surprise some lawmakers in Washington, who are deadlocked over how to reopen the federal government after eight days of shutdown.
Voters say they have a higher opinion of hemorrhoids than Congress, by 53% to 31%. More than seven in 10 voters say they view jury duty more favorably than Congress, which musters only 18% support in that comparison. Even toenail fungus rates 3 percentage points higher Congress.
Overall, voters in PPP's telephone poll gave Congress an 8% approval rating. Nearly nine in 10 voters, or 86%, say they disapprove of Congress which is in line with a recent CNN survey.
"Congress having an 8% approval rating tells us one thing about how unhappy voters are," said Dean Debnam, president of Public Policy Polling. "But it's even more telling that voters have a lower opinion of it than annoyances like the DMV and jury duty, health issues like hemorrhoids, and even witches."

He actually read the whole poll on the floor.

(34,648 posts)I can't believe they prefer congress over uncle Charlie! Charles may have incited murder and tried to incite a race war but congress does all of that plus they're trying to kill the world. We have to get Mansons numbers up.

If the pollsters asked the same group what they thought of their own Representative, I'm pretty sure the approval rate would be considerably higher than toenail fungus.
That's why I never get too jazzed about these generic "What's your opinion of congress" poll questions.

(154,021 posts)if districts, and I mean all of them, were +1 or +2 to either side, aka a swing district, you would have more people getting cycled. Our worst gerrymandered districts are +25 and +27 (and that is for both sides, by the way). Having anybody replace the current sitting member of Congress under those conditions requires a wave election or an act of god, preferably the latter.

(39,961 posts)Mine is the idiot that did the whole charging of the WWII memorial when he was one of the very SOB's that voted for the shutdown. He's an assclown of epic proportions that I probably wouldn't piss on if he was on fire, not even mentioning vote for him.

(23,664 posts)Thanks to gerrymandering and people's general lack of interest in politics.
I've been in three different districts in the last 15 years, without changing my place of residence and my representatives have gone from mediocre, to horrible, to what a piece of shit (California 4th Dist). Yet they've managed to finagle the district boundaries around to keep this mostly rural district safe for republicans and I'm sure this jackass polls around 60-70% approval. He got 61% of the vote in 2012.
There are only like 5000 registered voters in our county so we never see him and that has pissed off a few of his constituents but they are brainwashed enough to vote for him again if the election were held tomorrow.

(51,076 posts)I get his emails as he is my favorite congress critter. Rep. Grayson has more fight in his little toe than the whole lot of the teahadists assholes. I predict he will go far in our government if he so desires.
I'm a long way from his district but I feel he speaks for me nonetheless
