President Obama: 'You know what, we're not going to do that again'

Obama says the two sides should've struck their grand bargain in 2011. "When I see John Boehner to this day I still say, you should've taken the deal that I offered you back then."

In 2011, I entered into good-faith negotiations with John Boehner. He had just won the speakership... deficits were high. People were concerned.

"I thought it was my obligation to meet him halfway... At that point at least, nobody had any belief that" the government would risk default, Obama says.

"The truth of it is, if you look at the history, people posture about the debt ceiling... but it wasn't a situation in which you know, 'if I don't get what I want'" there will be a default.

"As a consequence I said, 'You know what, we're not going to do that again,' not just for me, but because future presidents... should not be in a position."

he had underestimated the Koch Bros' lackeys' zeal to take down this government any which way they can. Now President Obama needs to undo what he's allowed in 2011 and kill the hostage-taking path the Koch Bros are now demanding become the norm.

No more deal making.

Thank you President Obama for always trying to bring change to America. I hope your daughters and my nieces and nephews enjoy a better America from your efforts. Definitely a less racist America, think you definitely helped in that category alone.

God bless Democratic Underground.

But this part? "deficits were high. People were concerned."

"People" wanting to loot the gov't were "concerned." Normal people wanted a jobs program, not austerity.

I'm glad the Repubs wouldn't touch the 3rd rail. I'm even more glad that President Obama is digging in instead of asking what he can do for them.
