The letter from Paul Kaplan to Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA), reported by NBC Sports, drips with sarcasm.
In a thinly veiled reference to the House GOP's relentless attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Kaplan noted that his beloved team "sent batters to the plate at least 40 times" in Monday's 4-3 Dodgers win, which eliminated the Braves from the playoffs.
"But just because we couldn't score enough runs, the Dodgers refuse to relinquish the title and worse, they won't even discuss it," Kaplan wrote. "LA's stubborn refusal to even talk to us about reversing the results of this series is un-sportsmanlike and un-American. But there is an answer: If the Dodgers won't listen to the cries of average Americans like you and me, then Congress should outlaw Major League Baseball until the Dodgers cave."
(snip)
"Just because the Dodgers had more hits, scored more runs, and won more games doesn't make them right," Kaplan wrote in closing. "You can help them see that."

(957 posts)"Americans, by which I mean Braves fan's like me, overwhelmingly oppose a Dodgers win. Allowing them to impose their left-coast values on our post-season play is ruining America. And my fantasy team."
and
"Help us avoid the Dodger's cynical shutdown of Major League Baseball."

Hey, SORE LOSERMEN anyone????
Why haven't we revived that? It's so much more relevant and accurate now than it was when the bad guys were chiding us because we said bush/cheney stole the election from Al Gore (and as usual, we were correct about THAT, too).

(11,175 posts)The first paragraph sounds like straightforward support for the Republicans' extortion, with no hint of any sarcasm. My guess is that some staffer will read that paragraph, note Mr. Kaplan as a supporter on the tally they're keeping, and send him the form letter "thanks for your support, we'll beat these socialists and win back America," which will go out with the Congressman's robo-signature.
It's a great letter. Thanks for posting it, cal04!

On Wednesday, Kingston responded with a letter that acknowledged Kaplan's sarcasm
"I agree with you that Republicans and the Braves have much in common," Kingston wrote, according to Fox Sports. "You could say that the Republicans Bravely take on tough issues such as defunding Obamacare and trying to curtail runaway spending. And we dont mind clearing the dugout for a good brawl. We also agree that Dodgers is a fitting name for the Democrats as they often Dodge serious issues such as balancing the budget or cutting spending."
