"raising the debt ceiling does not raise the debt" "There will not be a single dime of added spending, this is to pay for what we have already bought" I think a lot of low info teabaggers aren't aware of that!

Then I said, "You know like lowering taxes and then starting two wars increases deficits.
So essentially you ate yourself a fine meal with appetizers and desert, now your best idea is to run out on the tab because you don't like the coffee your date ordered. Now, that's fiscal responsibility!"
He changed the subject to welfare queens. Blah, Blah, Blah...

(8,399 posts). . . the talking point proffered by some on the right that he could merely 'choose' to pay debt obligations and mandatory spending and make cuts in discretionary spending? This is something Chris Hayes pointed out the other day (even apart from the damage such a move would do to the economy). The U.S. government writes millions upon millions of checks each year. The entire system is computerized (as indeed it must be in order to handle that kind of volume). It isn't as if somebody decides, "OK, we're going to pay this bill this week, and this bill we're going to wait to pay until next week or next month." There is simply no mechanism by which to do that, nor, given the volume, could such a system be readily created. The notion that we can flag certain obligations to be paid now, and others to wait, is yet another manifestation of the very ignorant idea that the nation is or can be run the way one runs a household. It is a categorical mistake.

(15,696 posts)But repukes don't want to be reminded of that. Or of the fact that the debt limit was raised 18 times during the Reagan administration. Or that this current bunch of tearepukes have already approved of and spent the money they need to pay for now.
Lying sacks of shit, the lot of them.

I heard someone compare the government budget to his household budget. How simple minded is that??

(406 posts)As we all know and have read time and time again, the GOP only cares about spending when they're not in charge.
Now is the time for the POTUS to go prime time, pie graphs at the ready and use it. The time to precipitate a forcing of the teabag ayatollahs to have their proper comeuppance meltdowns is now. They are, and have been, engaging in absolute, premeditated and deliberate subversion of their sworn duties as elected lawmakers of this country.
It's a thought.
