The Most Irresponsible Officials In Washington DC Are The 'Moderate' Republicans

Our government is a disaster because of a small group of Republicans in the House of Representatives.

I'm not talking about the group of Republicans you might think.

Yes, there are 30 to 50 arch conservatives in the House who have been insistent they won't reopen the government without putting a major dent in Obamacare. These people are not the key problem. They are only relevant because so-called "reasonable" or "realistic" Republicans allow them to be.

The most dangerous group in Congress is moderate Republicans, many from the northeast, who could reopen the government and break extremists' grip on their caucus' agenda, but choose not to.

Time we started acknowledging that instead of building "One (Red) America."

Incapable of ever being responsible...the moderates MIGHT every once in a while be responsible, but they chose not to!

5. This is classic authoritarianism. The leader authoritarians are what we typically

know as bullies. There is no better example than Rep Ted Cruz. But bullies (authoritarians) have to have their posse or followers (also authoritarians). These followers are as wicked as the leaders but more cowardly.

There is a great book, "The Authoritarians" by Bob Altemeyer, free on the internetz. I think it should be called "The Bullies".

6. Cruz has no power in the House, he's just a figleaf and soon to be scapegoat.

Boehner is the primary culprit, his total lack of leadership and dearth of political integrity is the cause of this crisis.

9. I agree that Boner has no leadership qualities. This is why I dont believe he is the real leader.

I think the Boner is just doing what he is told to do.

10. Despite Boner's lack of leadership he still holds the title of Speaker and control over the House

so the way I see it, there are two primary possibilities.

The growing political backlash evolves in to an irresistible force against Boner's cowardice and/or subservience to his money masters in not allowing a vote for a clean spending bill and he capitulates to the will of the American People.

The same dynamic of a political backlash becomes so fierce as to cause the "moderate" Republicans to break rank once and for all.

The longer this drags out, the more severe the consequences will be for the Republicans in 2014.

8. And, as a practical matter, this is where one solution could be found.

The President should explain to selected Republicans (such as those in districts that Obama carried last year) that, from now until November 2014, he will have no higher priority than getting them out of office. He should give them a choice: Provide the votes to end this government-by-extortion folly (on CR and debt limit), or have a big target on their backs.

Obama should promise them that he'll be in their districts. He'll help the DCCC in candidate recruitment. Suppose there's a popular state legislator who's reluctant to give up a safe seat to undertake a difficult run for Congress -- but maybe a personal phone call from the President of the United States would make a difference. Obama could also let these Republicans know that he'll be doing rallies and fundraisers for their opponent, and that OfA will channel volunteers from other areas to go into that district and sleep on local supporters' couches and do GOTV.

There are plenty of swing districts where a Republican incumbent, however much he or she worries about a Tea Party primary challenge, can be made to worry much more about the general election -- particularly if the President is there, making the case that this Congressmember didn't stand up to the right-wing extremists and facilitated their assault on the Constitution.
