UPDATED: One Year Ago, Obama Saw The Fracturing of the GOP We Are Witnessing Today

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/29/obama-morning-joe_n_2038103.html

President Barack Obama said in an interview Monday that the Republican party would have to overcome an internal war if he were reelected, but expressed hope that the partisan gridlock in Washington could come to an end.

"There are a whole range of issues I think where we can actually bring the country together with a non-ideological agenda," Obama said in a pre-taped interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

"The question’s going to be, how do Republicans react post-election?" he continued. "Because there’s going to be a war going on inside that party. It just hasn’t broken up. It’s been unified in opposition to me."

And later, this ominous statement from McConnell:

"The question for him is, 'Do I go to the middle and meet these guys halfway, like Reagan and Clinton did, or do I just double down on the left and we throw things at each other for four years?" McConnell said.

It looks like McConnell has met Obama in the Middle and the fracturing of the GOP in in mid-CRACK. McConnell and Senate GOP have called for a clean vote on the CR in the House, as have enough Republicans in the House to pass it.

If anyone wonders why people say Obama plays three-dimensional chess, this should confirm that not only does he play, but he sees strategies play out a year ahead.

On Update: Someone close to me is switching parties. Not going independent, but switching from Republican to Democratic. And the clerk at the registry told her that she is not alone. The clerk had the forms at hand at her desk and said she is getting plenty of calls to switch.

I live in a red area and I suspected that some of the moderate GOP here might go independent or sit out an election. No. They are going full bore switch to the Democratic Party.

I believe the GOP has severely damaged itself.

2. There are at least 21 House Repubs who have stated they will vote for a clean CR

This is well known. Boehner is driving the fracturing himself by not allowing a vote on this.

3. If Boehner brings it to the floor. It is also well known they will do nothing for this to happen

(there are plenty of votes last week to prove that) and some are already recanting.

4. That is the whole point...

That Boehner's reluctance to bring this to a floor vote, shows that there is a split in the party. If he would bring it, they'd vote for it.

I'm not sure how you supported your point here...

8. I agree if Boehner had the courage of his convictions, he would bring it to a vote.

That means one of two scenarios, either Boehner knows he doesn't have the votes or he's trying to shelter the "moderates" from having to make an unpopular vote against a clean spending bill.

Both cases imply the Republican Party is splintering from percieved voting actions in regards to this issue and/or fear of major political fallout with the American People.

5. "Do you see ANY GOPers voting with the Democrats?"

They passed the "Pay Our Military Act" 423 - 0 (8 not voting and passed by unanimous consent in the Senate)... And the vote for the bill to give back pay to furloughed employees in the House was 407 - 0 (28 not voting)... which means quite a lot of them did vote with Democrats.

I agree. I also believe that there is a major problem in the GOP right now.

Someone close to me is switching parties. And the clerk at the registry told her that she is not alone. The clerk had the forms at hand at her desk and said she is getting plenty of calls to switch.

I live in a red area and I expected that some of the GOP here would go independent. No. They are going full bore switch to the Democratic party.
