Wyden blasts House over revenue loss

Wyden blasts House over revenue loss

By Laura Barron-Lopez - 10/07/13 - http://thehill.com/blogs/e2-wire/e2-wire/327025-wyden-blasts-house-over-revenue-loss

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) blasted the House Monday when listing the number of energy projects and permits that have ground to a halt since the government shutdown took effect nearly one week ago.

Wyden, chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, took to the Senate floor to tout the news that the U.S. leads in energy production but warned against celebrating too soon.

"The red, white and blue is at the top for energy production," Wyden said. "This energy boom has been key to triggering a manufacturing renaissance. It is a magnet to bring companies that had gone overseas back to the U.S. again."

"The current senseless government shutdown is putting this good news story at risk. Federal agencies now can't approve federal permits for wind and wave energy; permitting is at a standstill."

Hydropower bills introduced by Wyden and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) passed Congress earlier this year and would lead to the generation of 60,000 megawatts of additional clean power, Wyden said.

"It now stands in languish because of this shutdown," Wyden added. "This mean less new energy, fewer new jobs and less revenue that we need in the private and public sector." ...........
